Rose problemo

My roses are budding up, then when the buds start to open they turn brown and die. I bought some Bayer rose fungicide/insecticide/fertilizer to put on them. Do y'all think that'll help?

My climbing Rose had about 50 roses, my regular rose bushes only had a few and they were small and didn'y last long and they turned brown.

I put rose food on mine. Were they getting enough water?

That could be the problem with my roses. The regular bushes are out by the garage and didn't get any water except when it rained. The climbing roses are off the deck on lattice and when Boy and I pee off the deck they get watered.

Sounds like aphids sucking the life blood out or your blooms

I'd guess aphids, but don't want to assume you hadn't checked for that first. They love roses. Main problem I've ever had with them.

I did some reading last night and there could be a few problems....they could have thrips, or could be browning from top-watering (which I've done because it's easier to turn on the sprinkler for everything). There were a few other possibilities, but none that I think fit the circumstances. I'll check for aphids also. Thanks for all of your replies!

Check for the little suckers on the buds, either green or black.

:ohwell: Upon close inspection of my roses, I found out they have aphids AND thrips!! :jameo: :jameo: I treated them with the rose stuff, so hopefully they'll bounce back. I also found an aphid on my lettuce!

The deer are eatiing my buds.

"The Deer" love roses, even more so the new shoots and blossoms!

Try some of the advertised deer repelants, or possibly mothballs scatered about your rose beds.

As an alternative, blast them with water from your garden hose.

Well, then they're just going to move on to my other plants. :jameo: I'm going to order some insects like ladybugs (or praying mantises, thanks BG!). I have already treated the roses, but I'm worried about the aphids moving on to my other stuff!

The best thing I've ever found to control aphids and thrips is Safer's Insecticidal Soap. Safe, non-toxic, inexpensive, but lethal to those critters. :yay:

:yay: Thanks, I'll try that if the other stuff I put on them doesn't work. I treated them on the 6th, and last night I still found some thrips.... I trimmed all of the blooms off of them...even the tiny buds. I'm going to let them come back and hopefully they'll be healthy.

BTW-I think I might have the beginnings of a flower bud stem (don't know what to call it) on my AV.

If it doesn't bloom this time, I'm mailing it to you!!
