Rosetta Stone

Has anyone had experience using Rosetta Stone language learning products? If so, I'd appreciate any feedback they might have. If anyone has used the newer online service (i.e. where you pay a certain amount for access to all levels for a certain period of time), I'd be especially interested in their thoughts.

You carry your iPad all the time, just Google Translate it.

Or there is this way...

 Not the same. I wish to learn some other languages and, though not being fluent in them, be functional in them. I've finally decided that my lack of ability to communicate directly and effectively with 80 or 90% of the world's population is embarrassing. My problem, with most everything, is getting bored and losing interest. So, I either need a fast way to funnel the information into my brain, or a way that can keep me interested over a longer period of time.

(Okay, you got me, there's a certain someone I'd like to be able to impress.)

Hi! I'm Terry 34H, I am Czech model who loves posing and needs to feel guy's attention on me, as often as it's only possible. I won't disappoint you, check my files out, and be sure to spend your time well with me.

Czech for sure ...........

I'll leave that for you to decide. That part of my post was made up anyway.
Darn.

No one has used Rosetta Stone products?
I have heard their "free demo" commercial a bunch of times, but still chuckle when I hear it. A demo is not as neat as a free lesson would be.

I have a German friend who gave me some old children's books to read. Just my level of understanding.

I am using the German Rosetta Stone since I will be going over there the in about a week or so. Three lessons later I can say "The little girl is eating" "The little boy is eating" "The woman is swimming" etc. Really not impressed with it.

Thank you. I'd like to be able to have a little more command of the learned languages than that. Were you using the purchased software or the newer online service?

I took 3 years of German in high school (I think, it's been a while, maybe it was only 2), but I couldn't even say those sentences now. Count to ten and ask if someone speaks English - that's probably about all I could do.

The Pimsleur Language CDs are supposed to be good, and the library should have them.

It sounds kind of silly, but when I was in Elementary School we had Spanish class once a week. Our teacher used Muzzy videos and it really helped! I took 3 years of Spanish in high school and most of what I remember is left over from Muzzy.

ETA: I am not suggesting that grown ups purchase Muzzy for themselves. Although if it weren't so expensive I would TOTALLY buy it.

Out of the two language programs one rosetta and the other pimsuleur. I'd choose Rosetta. It is expensive however, I like thier approach in teaching the langualge. Another thing that helps is to practice it with someone that speaks it. I'll findout the website where you can speak to native speakers to practice. What languages are you learning?

After three lessons, thats not bad. Did you want to be able to explain the kama sutra in German after three lessons? Considering in three lessons of language class you usually only count to ten at best and know how to say my name is...

We have Rosetta Stone spanish, and as is with any language, it starts off slow. I learned conversational while living in Spain, and have forgotten a lot, but not enough to start from the beginning. You won't become fluent over night with language course.
