<!--startindex-->ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- State police have closed the Route 50 and Route 450 bridges over the Severn River because a runaway barge has hit one of the bridges.

Valerie Burnette Edgar with the State Highway Administration said the barge hit a pier on the Route 50 Bridge and that crews are checking to determine what kind of damage was done. The barge is stopped lengthwise against the bridge pilings.

They do not know how it got loose.

I spent two hours today about 30 cars back from the bridge before they decided to open the center pylons to let people turn around and go the other way.

I lost almost 1200 bucks because of this today.
