My opinion only but compression has never been a good thing. I always tell my customers to not use it.

As a guideline, I don't usually compress the whole C: drive, I compress everything except the OS folders. All data gets compressed. All external drives get totally compressed. I'm running (3) 500 Gb drives completely compressed at home.

Whatever works. Being what it is, XP never looks or works exactly the same on all devices.
