Rusty Bowers -An actual Conservative thrown out

Another principled Republican shunned from his party for following the rule of law.

"After 18 years as an Arizona lawmaker, the past four as speaker of the state’s house of representatives, he has been unceremoniously shown the door by his own Republican party.

From the beginning, conservatism and the Republican party were interchangeable for Bowers. “Belief in God, that you should be held accountable for how you treat other people, those were very conservative thoughts and the bedrock of my politics.”

He identifies as “pro-life”, sees the US constitution as being inspired by God, and voted for Trump in the 2020 election. “I campaigned for Trump, I went to his rallies, I stood up on the stage with him,” he said.

When the results were confirmed, and Biden had won by 10,457 votes, the slimmest margin of any state, Bowers was unsurprised. But such was the brouhaha as armed Trump supporters protested outside counting centers in Maricopa county demanding “audits” that he decided to take a look for himself.

He gathered a group of trusted lawyers and went to investigate the counting process close up. “I saw incredible amounts of protocols that were followed and signed off by volunteers – Democrats, Republicans, independents. Yes, Republicans for crying out loud! And they did it by the book.”

After exchanging niceties, they got down to business. Giuliani said they had found 200,000 illegal immigrants and 6,000 dead people who had voted in Arizona. “We need to fix that,” Giuliani told him, cajoling him to call a special committee of the Arizona legislature to look into the supposed fraud.

Bowers remembers vividly how Trump and Giuliani played good cop and bad cop on that call. “Trump, you know, he wasn’t angry. He wasn’t threatening. He never said to me, ‘I’m going to get you if you don’t do this.’ Giuliani, he was the bulldog.”

I’m not a professor of constitutional law, but I get the idea. They want me to throw out the vote of my own people,” he recalls thinking. “I said, ‘Oh, wait a minute. Wait, wait, wait. So now, you’re asking me to overthrow the vote of the people of Arizona?”

Bowers’s response to the good cop, bad cop routine was categoric. He told them: “I took an oath to the American constitution, the state constitution and its laws. Which one of those am I supposed to break?”

It didn’t stop there. Bowers was pounded by wave after wave of demands that he subvert the election, some coming from the White House, some from “America First” politicians closer to home.

The speaker continued to be lobbied right up to the eve of January 6 when John Eastman, the conservative law professor advising Trump on his attempted electoral coup, rang him and exhorted him to “decertify” the electors. “Just do it and let the courts figure it all out,” Eastman said."

Rusty Bowers, a Jan. 6 committee star witness, loses GOP primary in Arizona

Rusty Bowers, the Arizona House speaker, lost a bid for state Senate to a Trump-backed opponent Tuesday. He told NBC News last month it would take "a miracle" to win

For Once, a Republican Tells the Truth About Trump

The Arizona Race That Reveals The Most About Trumpism And The 'Big Lie'

Last month, Bowers gave moving testimony before the House select committee investigating the events surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. He spoke about the intense pressure he faced to invalidate then-presidential nominee Joe Biden’s win in the state when Bowers said he saw no evidence to support doing so.
“There was no ― no evidence being presented of any strength... anything that would say to me, ‘You have a doubt. Deny your oath.’ I will not do that,” Bowers said.

A month later, the Arizona GOP censured Bowers for supporting a $1 billion education bill that included protection for gay and trans rights. The censorship was also for Bowers showing a “general disregard” for leaders of the party — including, presumably, Arizona GOP leader Kelli Ward, who has branded Bowers with the Trump-esque nickname “Rusty Bowels,” despite party committees not normally interfering in primaries.

If Bowers loses, it will likely happen amid a sweep of Trump-endorsed candidates: Kari Lake, the media-bashing former TV anchor vying for governor; Blake Masters, the venture capitalist with a history of embracing right-wing ideology running for U.S. Senate; and Mark Finchem, the conspiratorial state legislator competing to run elections.

Arizona Republican Party Censures House Speaker Rusty Bowers For Telling The Truth About Trump

Last night, the Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Arizona, LLC censured Arizona Speaker of the House of Representatives – Rusty Bowers (Former LD25/Current LD10 located in Mesa, Arizona). This includes ceasing any and all state support of him as a member of the Republican Party. Rusty has failed in his specific actions, including co-sponsoring Democrat-led bills and refusing to work with the most conservative legislative body in 10 years during arguably one of the most critical sessions in Arizona history. Additionally, he has consistently demonstrated general disregard for Republican Party Leadership at the precinct, legislative, county, state, and federal levels.

Speaker Bowers prompted the State Party to take disciplinary action following several instances described below in which Bower has stood against the Republican platform and the will of the voter of the Republican Party of Arizona. This goes much further than any policy disagreement and acknowledges his failures in his capacity as Speaker to implement stout conservative legislation and instead play the balance beam of politics.

Arizona lawmaker Rusty Bowers would vote for Trump again despite his emotional Jan. 6 testimony

It occured to me that Slappy is perhaps disappointed that it wasn't his favorite evangelical, Betty Bowers.

It's not like the Dems kick people out of their party no matter WHAT they do.

This by the way, is where people don't GET what a party IS. A candidate from a party represents what the party believes, just as say, a religious leader in a religion represents what that religion believes. You can be a part of a party and not believe all their stuff, but you can't REPRESENT them in elective office if you don't agree. It obviates the whole POINT of being in a party. If you disagree - you should find another party that matches your beliefs.

Same if you work for a company. You can think your company CEO is an ass, and their products are chit - but if you publicly ridicule the CEO and campaign on the idea that it makes crap, you don't "get" to work there anymore.
