I read that a commentator on NPR's "All Things Considered" was talking about how Saddam fancied himself a romance novelist. Apparently, many dictators and despots try writing this stuff when they lose touch with reality.
The mustachioed hero intoned huskily, "Oh, my passionate desert flower, your beauty makes me want to feed a political prisoner into a wood chipper." The heroine's hand dipped lower to feel his weapon of mass destruction...
You don't think this stuff is interesting from a psychological point of view? I didn't hear the NPR piece, but I doubt the network was arguing that Saddam's writings excuse his brutality.
