Saddle suggestions?

I am looking for a new saddle for my daughter. I would like leather and wool-flocked. She is riding in a 15" Wintec right now and we'd like to move up in quality, but I don't see spending $2000 on a Stubben since she is only 11 and has plenty of growing to do. She is only taking lessons right now but I guess she'd be categorized as hunter-jumper, so looking at close contact or all-purpose. Most regular saddles don't seem to come smaller than 16.5 and i think she needs 16" or maybe even 15.75". I'm afraid the pony saddles will be too wide in the tree for her pony. I'm hoping to stay $1000 or less. Any suggestions for a good mid-range saddle? Some of the ones I've found are Collegiate and HDR but not sure what everyone thinks. Thanks!

Keep an eye out for a used Pessoa Pony saddle - Craig's List, E-Bay, and of course, used tack sites. Sounds like she could go with a 15 3/4 or a 16. Whatever your choice, go with a CC, not an all-purpose.

Fredsaid2 thanks for the link - it looks in great shape but aren't Pessoas foam?

I saw a bunch of 16" ones on Middleburg's site, including a County Extreme, we might be taking a road trip. Devinej , thanks, we would definitely like to try it. Bill Wood told me what to check for to fit the pony, not sure why I always get these horses with the crazy backs. He said not to use my Collegiate (plus it is way too big for the kid anyway)

Yes, they are foam flocked. Foam has the advantage of accommodating changes in the horse's back w/o re-flocking. Many top of the line saddles are foam flocked. This saddle, with care, should fetch near the purchase price when re-sold in a few years. Pessoa's are snapped up quickly for pony riders.

You are definitely right - I emailed the lady and she said she has people coming to look at it this week but she will let me know if it doesn't sell

The beval is foam too. it seems to sit on her back not badly, definitly way better than the collegiate, could probably work at least till you find something you like better. feel free to borrow it.
