Safety Pool Cover

I asked this once in another thread, but we're planning on getting one for our pool. What's a reasonable cost? We have a 25,000 gallon inground pool - oh about 20 by 60 feet I guess. One place offered to do it for 3100. I thought that was insane. Anyone? What kind of cost should I expect?

If I was selling it I'd say $5500 was a fair price..

Really? I priced one at LOOP-LOC - they put it at about 950. I'm talking a regular cover that gets locked down, not the automatic kind you push a button and it closes. As far as I can tell, this is just a small step up from using a regular tarp.

Sam, I suggested the automatic kind last time. The LOOP-LOC, IMO, is a little better than a regular tarp because of it's strength. They will hold an elephant but at the same time they require a person to tie them down and take them off. I understand an automatic one is higher in price but I still maintain you would be much happier with one. A pool should be enjoyed and when with a push of a button or turn of a key it can be opened/closed it is well worth the extra cost. It is also very strong and as we don't have to many wild elephants around it will hold anything we do have from falling in. Your option, do you want to manually strap and unstrap the cover daily or would you rather just push a button. Also the automatic cover is on a roller so where do you put the LOOP-LOC when you take it off? I had a deck built just over my roller so it wasn't even visable. And say it was Thursday and you needed to prep the pool (put in some burnout, e.g.) for an upcoming weekend gathering, do you want to spend 1/2 an hour uncovering/covering manually or 1 minute? Maybe I should work selling pool covers!

If I had that kind of money - I'd try it. Hell, if I had that kind of money to spend on a pool cover, I'd have a lot of things I don't have. The ONLY reason I'm going to a safety cover is for the adoption and the dogs, because my only sensible affordable alternative is to fill the damned thing with dirt.

I just thought 3100 for a regular safety cover seemed like a lot of money.

I understand. We are all restricted by the money factor. We can do no more than our budgets allow. To be honest I have suggested these automatic covers to friends for a number of years now and not one of them has one to this day - much to my dismay.
