Saint Mary's County landfill is robbing county residents with dump fees.

I SAID IT YES I DID !
As a native of Saint Mary's County. I feel we are being charged to much for
hauling brush into the landfill. In the wake of recent storms in the county. I hauled two trailer loads of brush into the county at $65.00 per ton.
The county will take the brush grind it and give it away to residents for free.
At Charles and Calvert to dump brush into their landfill is free at no charge for their county residents. I think I made a very bad decision on who I voted for in last years election. :smack:

In addition to the burning suggestions, most times I have seen after a fairly large storm the county lifts the charges for dumping yard debris.

As you stated the fee is $65 per ton, but how much did it cost you for the two loads?

I recently took my 6 by 12 enclosed trailer there full of odds and ends [a lot heaver that bush] and I go charged $20. Not bad if you ask me. It saved me about six or more trips if I would have tried to use my P/U.

Just me
We have a 4X8 trailer that we've loaded with branches, logs, and assorted other yard waste, and it cost us a whopping $10 for each trailerload. I figure that covers the cost of them mulching it up so they can give it away. I find it to be a pretty good deal. It beats spending however many hours it would take me to burn it all, and I don't have to worry about igniting the rest of my yard or my trees or anything.

You realize that the "free" option doesn't exist, don't you? Either each user pays or everyone in the whole county pays, thru taxes, whether they take anything to the dump or not. I'd rather shell out $10 as I need to than subsidize those who dump way more than I'll ever dispose of.

You are hauling in large loads if you had to pay by the ton

The county has to pay a chipper/grinder to come into chip that up so that they can GIVE it away

Let's see i pay $6700.00 per year in county property taxes. I paid $260.00 to dump 2 pine trees at the dump. Im just thinking about the folks that is on a fixed income. :howdy:

That's pretty much what I've seen, $10 per truck load.

I'm just curious. Does Calvert or ST.Mary's have a big problem with illegal dumping of trash and debris? Like on the side of the road or on someone else's property? I remember hearing a story from either PG County or AA County where they started to charge for stuff like curbside pickup of large appliances and truck loads of tree branches, etc. All of a sudden, they were finding the refrigerators and tree stumps at park N rides, in fields, parking lots, etc.

CAPPY2609

dont be dumb
These "dump" fees have gotten so bad that the county maintenance guys came to my house and installed a coin operated toilet.

Load your brush into garbage bags and then take them to the free convenience centers.

This also works for bicycles, used tires and spent motor oil.

You got the point. And before you know it they will be dumping brush on the steps of the governmental center.

See, we have laws against dumping and littering, so i doubt this will be a problem. Besides, why are you complaing about having to pay a little to dump your waste, you made it, you should pay for it. Why should i or any other individual have to pay your trash fees?

Here is an idea, if you dont want to pay to dispose of yard waste try composting.

BadGirl

I am so very blessed
I don't mind paying a fee to use the landfill. I do mind not having convenient hours in which to do my yard waste/large items disposal.

Closing up at 4:30 during the weekdays and only open on Saturday until 4:30 isn't my idea of convenient. :ohwell:

Why not have the landfill open on Sunday's, too. You know.....when people actually have time to get there?
