Salad dressing

Like the kind you'd put on a salad, not that horrific mayo substitute that should be against the law.

I've been eating a lot of salads lately and making my own dressings. It's easier, tastes better, and I can make as much as I want rather than having 8 dressing bottles in my fridge for a year like my mother does.

Me: How long has this dressing been in here?
Mom: Oh I just bought it last week.
Label: Best before 12/06/1997

Anyway, who has some good recipes? Here's mine from yesterday:

Maple Vinaigrette
splash of pure maple syrup
a blop of dijon mustard
maybe 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
same amount of olive oil - more if you don't like it so tangy
salt/pepper to taste - I like mine with a LOT of pepper

It was perfect with kale but probably wouldn't do well with more delicate greens.

I knew there was something off about you, but I never could have imagined it was this bad.
This suggests that you aren't offended by Miracle Whip. I'm sure you're just lashing out and don't really mean that. :huggy:

Tomato sandwich with Miracle Whip. 😋
Bologna spread
1 ring of bologna (Koegels)
1 Medium onion
2 Kosher dill pickles
3/4C Miracle whip

Send the bologna, onions and pickles through a meat grinder with a fine blade.
Mix well with the Miracle whip.
Ham can be substituted for Bologna to make ham spread

Serve on wonder bread

Litehouse Chunky Bleu Cheese dressing is my favorite. If I can't find that I'll settle for one of the others in the refrigerated case.

I bet that's good.

I remember my first taste of Miracle Whip. My grandfather would smear it all over his cooked cabbage, course I made a face and that appeared to upset him. "Don't turn your nose up till you try it." Then he dumped it on my cabbage. Not being fond of cabbage to begin with and he promised it would make it taste better I held my nose and took a bite. Ever since that day, it's the only way I can eat cooked cabbage.

I like vinegar and oil based dressings on pasta salads. I change up the spices depending on my mood. Sometimes I identify as Asian, sometimes Italian.
For my salads with greens I prefer creamier dressings ( just not blue cheese, blech!). I make my own mayo and add stuff to make it more ranch or thousand island style.
