I believe Johnny Wood just proposed the 6 percent tax as a poison pill to scare the state government into cutting spending.
Here are my suggestions for the state budget:
1. Institute a flat income tax with no deductions other than the personal exemption and home mortgate interest.
2. Eliminate 5 percent of state employee jobs at all levels except the top two levels of administrators, where 75 percent of jobs would be eliminated.
3. For the remaining employees, reduce their salaries by 5 percent except at the top two levels, where salaries would be reduced 25 percent. (Can you tell that I believe state government is too top-heavy?)
