Mark 4:21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”
24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more. 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”
Until now, and yep even this morning, the meaning of these four verses has alluded me. The preachers all say this is a separate parable and a different topic. But I keep thinking this is part of the previous verses about the seeds.
Did you check out verse 11, posted yesterday? Well, it said Believers, not just disciples but just plain Believers, were given a Secret Understanding of the Kingdom. I gotta say, I think the verses I posted today are a continuation of that conversation. It would make sense that if Jesus told us "Believers have a Secret Understanding of the Kingdom", He would go on to explain why we were so gifted!
We understand what Jesus means. We are Believers so we can figure it out. We have a little understanding that lets God's Spirit work in us.
You know those cartoons with a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other shoulder? Remember cartoons???? Geeze, I haven't seen a good cartoon in years... anyway, let me get back to my point. We have this understanding and this Spirit to guide us to the right meaning because we're God's shining lights. Everyone gets the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other.... but only Believers can hear them talking!
Jesus could only tell so many people. Satan was nipping at His heals. So, Jesus gave Believers a lamp so they could carry the light into the world. Humans see the kind, giving, caring Believers and they are drawn like moths to a flame.
I think this is a charging statement. I think this is the instruction to the upgrade. God gave us Understanding because we are Believers. He knew we would become Believers, so we got a dose of Understanding, and acceptance of the Messiah as our Saviour activates the Understanding.... like turning on the lamp when we walk into a room.
Hey.... maybe it works like a motion detector. When we make a motion to Salvation, our Understanding is switched on, and the lamp lights!
Believers are the lamps!
Salvation turns us on!
