I have a universal programmable remote from Sony, but old. Used it on the Std Def Theater, not the Hi-Def in Family room.
I am missing remote for ROKU, so no Glenn Beck. or Deutsche Rundschau.
Still looking. Bought the latest Star Trek movie, with the new Kirk and Spock, but can not watch it on HI-Def. yet.
Harmony is the way to go, been using them for years now. Codes? Who needs codes? Online database, usb interface. Log in, select devices from drop downs, add activities to include devices used in that activity, decide which component needs what settings. Damn things can control almost anything that uses IR remotes, including fans and such.
Depending on the model, you can rename activities. So the sunroom setup I just pieced together last weekend, for instance, which has a PS3, a Roku, and a crappy Magnavox HTIB and a freecycled 57 inch DLP set, I broke the old Harmony 525 out of the old remotes box.
Took about 15 minutes start to finish to set the remote up. Has four activity buttons, now labelled "Watch Roku", "Watch a Movie", "Play PS3", and "Watch TV". Given the limitations of various parts of the system lots of switching to be done. Each of these one button presses accomplishes the following
Watch Roku - Powers on TV, selects HDMI 1 input, channel, play/pause controls are set to Roku, volume control is set to TV
Watch Movie - Powers on TV and HTIB, selects Video input #1 on TV, sets volume controls and play/puase stuff to HTIB.
Play PS3 - turns on TV, selects HDMI #2 input, sets volume controls to TV. No control over the PS3, since it uses bluetooth, but thats easily added for $14 or so by buying an USB IR remote for the PS3 and using just the USB IR dongle.
Watch TV - Turns on TV and selects the antenna input, sets volume to the TV.
When you are done, hitting the power button powers off all devices used in that activity. I know you can accomplish a lot of this with macros, but, having done a lot of that stuff in years gone by, screw macros.
