Say Bye-Bye to Gray Hair, Researchers Find Way to Reverse The Process : Health & Medicine : Nature World News

Excerpt:
In a new research report published online in The FASEB Journal people who go gray develop massive oxidative stress via accumulation of hydrogen peroxide in the hair follicle, which causes hair to bleach itself from the inside out.

The report notes that the enormous accumulation of hydrogen peroxide can be cured with a proprietary treatment developed by the researchers described as a topical, ultraviolet B-activated -- sunlight -- compound PC-KUS, a modified pseudocatalase.

Yay! But...the article doesn't state how hydrogen peroxide accumulates in your hair follicle? What causes that?

Basic evidence for epidermal H2O2/ONOO

Excerpt:
Nonsegmental vitiligo (NSV) is characterized by loss of inherited skin color. The cause of the disease is still unknown despite accumulating in vivo and in vitro evidence of massive epidermal oxidative stress via H2O2 and peroxynitrite (ONOO−) in affected individuals. The most favored hypothesis is based on autoimmune mechanisms.

Heh, interesting. So H2O2 and ONOO can be created by the body somehow? And here I was thinking H202 was something you buy in a bottle at the drug store.
