More than standard phishing...

These have evolved into more than a standard phishing scam attempting to collect personal identifying information in that they will take you to a site in either Taiwan or the PRC where malware is loaded onto your computer. Once the payload is loaded onto your computer you can then be subjected to an intruder exploring around in your computer capturing data at will. The intrusions are labor intensive but the ChiComs have plenty of bodies to whom they will pay a small fee for every identity captured. Also many of the intruders are actually located in Singapore though most are in the PRC. One advantage of using a human to poke around is that method is less likely to trigger an Intrusion Detection System than one running a script or port scan or some other automated activity.
If there is any chance you may have followed the link you should use any and all AntiVirus or AntiSpyware software you may have to thoroughly scan your system to see if it's clean.
