Scanning devices

What the heck are those little 1"X1" squares with tiny white and black squares on some merchandise that says "scan here for more information" ?

Does the store have a scanner or do people actually go buy something to do this?

dr, does it look like this if so it is a QR code. There are phone apps out there for reading them.

Yep, apps like "Barcode Scanner", start the app, it reads the barcode, lets you go to a website for product demos, etc.

You can really make them do anything. I've been thinking about getting the dog tags that have the codes on them.

If you dog runs away, and someone scans it, you get an e-mail notification with gps coordinates of the scan.

That's actually a good idea, and could be expanded to replace medical alert bracelets worn by many people. It could have medical history and contact #s.

:yay:

That gives me a good idea...I have a couple NFC "laundry tokens" (weatherproof NFC tags). I could encode them with info and maybe even have it send a text when scanned and put them on the dogs.
