FTA:

• Baquoba, June 2007: Discovery of the first torture house. Victims had drill holes in their bodies and deep gouges caused by blow torches; an Al Qaeda flag was in the torture house; many of the torture wounds were in the bottom of the feet of the victims. Torture equipment included: Drills, blow torches, chains hanging from the walls and ceiling, blood trails, saws, drills, knives, weapons, masks, and handcuffs. An execution site outside of building where Iraqi victims were lined up and shot.

• Khan Bani Saad, August 2007: Discovery of rooms filled with torture tools and murdered Iraqi victims.

• Arab Jibour, near Dora, south of Baghdad, August 2007: Blood splattered on the walls. Piles of corpses found outside the house.

• Tarmiyya, September 2007: Nine prisoners were freed; many victims had been chained in place.

• Muqdadiyah, December 2007: Beds wired for electrical shock with electricity still on. Masks, whips, bloody knives, and chains hanging from ceiling on the site. Twenty-six bodies found buried on site: most had hands tied and were shot in the head. Locals said Al Qaeda was intimidating the area with threats of torture and execution.

Well, at least they didn't make anyone wear panties on their head or dunk them in the water. That would have been REALLY bad.

...but nowhere do I read where they are truly torturing anyone and going way over the top by exposing people to second hand smoke, against there will or otherwise, nor do I see any water-boarding going on.

I'm damn glad the terrorists didn't sign any Geneva Conventions. Otherwise, the New York Times or WaPo would write about two column-inches on page 16 saying these places might be considered bad in some circles.

...it's just freaking asinine for us to run around chasing our own tail over Abu Ghraib and water boarding when we're dealing with people whose idea of a good Friday night is hacking Dan Pearl or Nick Berg's head clean effing off. If we heard more about what happened to those three troopers who got captured last year and saw the video over and over again, a la Rodney King, we'd be in better shape to be passing judgement on right and wrong.

That's another thing I can't stand about W. He gets in these bad PR moments and expects a nice little speech to suffice. Stand up there, show the damn videos and ask the American people if humiliation and scaring people is so damn bad in context of who we're fighting.

Bully pulpit? Hardly.

If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.
