yeah target does have nice stuff.. but if my daughter wants to wear roxy, billabong, hollister, american eagle, abercrombie and fitch.. I am going to provide it..
I grew up without those things, and I suffered for it. But I don't want my kids to think that keeping up with the Jonses is important, even if it is a hard lesson for them. It's so totally completely NOT important.

:yay: at least I am not ashamed to admit it..and I am honest and being real with you.....maybe thats what these school kids want to do..they want to be real..they want to wear what they like..there is nothing wrong with that.
I have worked since I was 14 years old. I appreciate all that I have. I do as much as I can for others. I hope that my kids do the same. :yay:

And she'll never appreciate a damn thing in life.
Why do you say that? Just because people have nice things doesn't mean they don't appreciate them. Or can you only appreciate the Goodwill jeans and not the Hollisters?

Why not make your kids get a job for those Hollisters?

yes, kids should be sitting in a classroom reciting math problems.
I disagree. Learning to think and express yourself is much more conducive to adulthood than reciting math problems or conjugating verbs.

I started working when I was 16 not because I had too..it was because I wanted to. I enjoyed it.. I loved working with kids..and all of the money that I made..was mine to do whatever with..buy clothes, go out to eat with my friends, go to movies, pay my cell phone bill..thats one thing that my parents never did was pay my phone bill :)

My kids have jobs. So far every one of them has started working when they were a Junior in high school. Our 15 year old will probably get a job next year as well.

When I wanted a $400 prom dress, my mom said I could get it - if I got a job. I got an after-school job and paid for the dress myself. It was a good feeling.

And I am not raising my children to be the sort of people who must wear a uniform to work.

That's why most of the Doctors, Scientists and Engineers are no longer "American" but imported from countries like India, Pakistan, and Japan just to name a few.. Did you ever stop to think "Why can't I find a doctor with the last name Jones or Smith in the Yellow Pages??"

Most American sixth graders don't even know their multipication tables anymore, becasue it retards their creative thinking process'.. persona;;y I think it just makes them retarded.

but at least the American adult can design virtual clothes for online persona's that they can sell to other less creative Americans....

You are still young. Nevermind. You've never had to earn anything in your life. This conversation is pointless.

Not at all. I love the uniformed waitress who brings my food and keeps my drink filled. I also love our UPS guy, the garbage guys, the mail lady, etc. But not many parents dream of their child becoming one of them as a life career.

It will be when you have to look at your brat screaming at the top of her lungs because they don't have her Hollister jeans in pink while shopping at Macy's. :yay:

we have a school district here that is a lower income community, and they started enforcing a dress code after a charter school opened up that had a dress code. all the students wore black pants and a maroon shirt, or maroon sweat shirt in the winter months. Discipline problems went down, stuff happening after school declined, cause all the neighbors could identify the kids by what colors they were wearing. after seeing the success rating the public school did the same thing and things have improved greatly. each grade was assigned a different shirt color so they could identify the students if something occurred. I really love this program and wish it would be implemented in all our schools. It will be a hell of a lot cheaper to cloth your kids for school every year.

Ahhh, but if everyone was wearing a Little House on the Prairie schoolmarm dress, my personality would not be influenced by what I or others are wearing or the judgments made because of said clothing.
Personality isn't influenced by clothing - choice of clothing is influenced by personality. You can tell a lot about a person by what they choose to wear (remember that word - "choice"? What a great word!).

My son was in the military - got out last year. And uniforms make sense for military personnel and how they're required to operate, as I stated earlier.
