The late Sean Taylor will be inducted into the Redskins’ Ring of Fame at FedExField in a ceremony prior to the Redskins-New York Giants game on Nov. 30.

It will be the Redskins’ first game following the anniversary of Taylor’s tragic death at the age of 24, which occurred on Nov. 27 of last year in Miami.

“It’s appropriate that Sean joins our Ring of Fame after a stellar career cut short far too soon,” Redskins owner Daniel M. Snyder said. “His life touched so many of us in such deep and lasting ways. His presence is all around us, in our organization and among our fans.”

Executive Vice President of Football Operations Vinny Cerrato added: “Sean was developing into one of the best to ever play the safety position, as well as becoming a role model to those who knew him. He still touches us every day in some way on and off the field.”

Taylor will be the 43rd member admitted into the Ring of Fame, which honors those who have made distinguished contributions to the team. He is the first since Gary Clark entered the Ring of Fame on Oct. 7, 2007.

The ceremony will feature a tribute and messages from former teammates as well as the presentation of a commemorative plaque to members of Taylor’s family.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early at FedExField for the pre-game ceremony. Kickoff is 1 p.m. ET.

With his combination of size, speed, athleticism, ferocity and instincts, Taylor was one of the most unique and dynamic athletes the game has ever seen, despite playing less than four seasons.

He was a two-time Pro Bowl selection after the Redskins made him the fifth pick of the 2004 NFL draft following an All-American career at the University of Miami.

I'm not sure that Sean Taylor isn't this year's Redskin's MVP. The perspective that his death lent to many of the current players, and the willingness to humbly be part of a team that it engendered in them, is allowing them to reach the potential that their individual talents add up to. I think the impact of that team mentality that they've shown this year is greater than the impact that any one player could have.

Anyway, congrats to Taylor and his family.

Did the story of why he was shot ever come out? It seemed very sketchy the weeks that followed and being 2,000 miles away it was a bit hard to follow.

There were some initial stories that it was a paid hit made to look like a burglary; his GF was involved in the burglary; perhaps even the hit.

Didn't Taylor have past relationship with the shooter?

Did anything beyond it being a home burglary ever come out???

Not a paid hit just a robbery gone wrong. It was four kids (one of them cut grass for them at times). The kids heard someone coming and one of them freaked out and pumped out a couple of bullets. Girl friend wasn't involved at all.

All four kids are behind bars now I believe.

Man Pleads Guilty In Taylor Slaying - washingtonpost.com

One of the five people charged in the killing of Redskins safety Sean Taylor pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 29 years in prison, according to his attorney.

Venjah K. Hunte, 20, the driver of the vehicle that the suspects used to travel from Fort Myers, Fla., to Miami on the night of the killing, agreed to testify against the others as part of his deal, said Michael F. Hornung, his lawyer. He likely faces at least 23 years in prison, given a Florida statute requiring at least 80 percent of his murder term be served.

"In the best-case scenario, it's a 23-24-year sentence," Hornung said yesterday.

Suspects in Taylor's Killing to Be Tried Next Year - washingtonpost.com

A judge yesterday set a new trial date of March 3. It had been set for later this month, which would have been unusually fast for a murder case.

Prosecutors said the suspects shot Taylor in November during a robbery attempt at his Miami area home. Taylor, a Pro Bowl safety, was unexpectedly home because of a knee injury.

One of the men, 20-year-old Venjah Hunte, pleaded guilty in May under a deal that calls for him to serve 29 years in prison.

The remaining four men have pleaded not guilty. They are being held without bail and face possible life in prison if convicted.
