Burpee is offering seedless tomatoes. You can get both seeds and plants. Well, where do they get the seeds for seedless tomatoes?

 I can't answer that question, but I love sliced tomatoes on a cold cut sandwich or on a cheeseburger fresh off the grill. With the fact that I was diagnosed with diverticulitous about 2 years ago and I'm not supposed to eat them because of the seeds, I'll be growing some of them this summer for sure!

The plants are genetically engineered from plants that make seeds, but the offspring tomatoes from those seeds will not produce seed, ie sterile. The only way to propagate them is to either continue breeding the seedless tomatoes from seeded tomatoes, or use cuttings to continue the same plant.

Some people aren't supposed to eat tomato seeds.

People with diverticulitous, such as myself, are not supposed to eat tomatoes because of the seeds. We're also not supposed to eat pickles, cucumbers, bananas, and other fruits & vegetables that have seeds.

They don't say we can't eat them, but after what I went through in 2007 I try to make sure that it's kept to a minimum.

So what happens if you eat the seeds?

So what happens if you eat the seeds?

They can get stuck in little pockets or folds of the intestine, where they eventually fester and cause extreme pain. It can hospitalize you in some cases with antibiotic IV drip if oral meds don't work

Yes, I speak from experience. Had an attack earlier this week, fortunately only lasted a day, but I missed work.

So how do you know if you have that or not?

Diverticulitous is were pockets form in the colon and the seeds get trapped in there. It's a little more involved but a bit gross to explain. I started bleeding very badly and had to spend the night in the hospital because of this issue. Not fun.

Some people can have the condition and never have it develop into an infection. The only way you'd find out was if you got a colonoscopy. The first time I got it I had no clue, just thought it was a pain in my gut. In two days I couldn't stand up straight. I'd never even heard of the stupid thing until then. Howecer, I never heard of banana seeds causing the problem. I eat a banana every day almost. The last two times I had it I had eaten oysters a day or two before. I'm thinking they have sand or silt in them.

I hope seedless tomatoes will show up in stores.

Or GW Guy's garden.

My neighbor in PA couldn't have bananas for that reason. Diverticulitis.
