Senior Citizen discount--Atlantic Broadband

Saw on the Enterprise today that Atlantic Broadband is now offering a senior citizens discount for those receiving video services (cable TV). It's buried deep in the article, and I would assume you'll need to call 1-800-952-1001 and specifically ask for it. Here is the article:

...and the relative info from the article:

"Scott Randell, regional manager of Atlantic Broadband — and a county resident, he noted — said the cable and internet provider “rolled out a discount service for senior citizens for video services.”

“It’s not a huge amount but it’ll help,” he added."

They should discount it for everyone, for what they deliver, and the problems, they are way over priced.
Wonderful having a virtual monoply. Not only do they operate as a monopoly, but the company holding the franchise hasn't changed in well over 20 years. The name has changed only because of sales and consolidations. Some of the wiring dates back to the orginal system.

Looks like I am subsidizing the Seniors - my bill has gone up over $9 since September with no change in services. Yup I'm doing my part in redistributing the wealth.

Here's the answer I got back when I made an email inquiry: "You would be eligible for a 5% discount on your limited tv channels. All you would have to do is go to your local office in St. Mary's with your ID. "

It would take you 2 to 3 months to earn back the cost of the gas and trouble to make the trip. Really? Expect you to drive to their freaking office with ID in hand for a 5% discount. This is why I never ever complained about Metrocast. I knew very well that we were getting a great deal compared to people who had to put up with these other cable monsters. The bigger they get, the less they care. Not to mention that it is a virtual monopoly.

And with all of the millions these guys have been raking in for decades, there are still many parts of St. Mary's w/o any service. Supposedly wireless will make them obsolete in not too many years. But, then we'll just be slaves to Verizon and AT&T, not to mention the brain cancer.

You realize the only reason these acquisitions are made is because they are a cash cow.
None of the successors to the original company have invested much in the system in terms of upgrades.
They wait for a new development to pay for that, then they sock the homeowner for the connection charges.
Prices go up, but nothing changes.
Interesting what you hear when you talk to the technicians about the wiring and stuff.
Being a newbie to ABB I was reading stuff on their website that didn't seem to match what my bill and other paperwork had.
Also noticed Metrocast stickers on the hardware.
That's because the network here hasn't been "fully" intergrated into the ABB network. That could take several years.
If they hadn't gone digital you could probably still find Western Shore equipment tags.
