Ubi bene ibi patria
"According to a new research study by Clarity and The EAR Foundation, 26% of senior citizens rated loss of independence and 13% rated moving out of home into a nursing home as their greatest fears. These two possibilities are a much higher concern than death, which was the greatest fear for only three percent of Seniors.

And, the children of Seniors also fear for their parents, with particular concern about their emotional and physical well-being should they have to enter a nursing home.

For the "Aging in Place in America" study, two groups were surveyed to allow a comparative analysis of the attitudes of Seniors age 65 and older who are living at home with those of Baby Boomers who have Senior parents."

Yep! I fought for 3 years after Dad died to get Mom to move. She said she'd never leave her home until she took a number of falls and almost burned her hand off and the house down once. I completely understand their feelings but reality has to win this one. NO ONE, in their generation, wants to lose their home. I took Mom in to live with me for many months but I just couldn't give her the care she needed by myself. I couldn't leave her alone even to go grocerie shopping. I found 2 great assisted living homes and, thank God, they took care of her until she died last May. I promised not to put her in a nursing home if it was within my power and it was. I just pictured myself being put in one and that helped me do my best to keep her out of them. I used to do lot's of work in nursing homes all over Va & Md and I know what they're like. The toughest part is the neglect there, both from the staff and the families. Some of these folks are never visited! It brought tears to my eyes to see this treatment of someone's parents. They're only around for a short time so we've got to love them now. Don't wait until they're gone to tell them you love them.:yay:
