severely painful water in the ear

My doctor told me last week I have water in the ear and gave me a few things to try and clear it up. I've just been taking the antibiotic, the Tylenol 3, nose drops with steroids, ear drops for a couple of days. From my temple down the side of my face to my jaw is swollen and pounding almost non-stop. My jaw hurts so bad I can hardly open and close my mouth. I keep getting horrible shooting pains in the area around my ear, can't hear from it and it's severely painful. Don't feel like eatting or drinking, etc. Temperature has been hanging around 100.

When I started reading up on this problem on the internet there were stories of the brain or surrounding bones becoming infected, etc. I don't know how long I should wait before calling my doctor back. I don't want to jump the gun if this is just the normal process, but don't want to wait too long either and cause further complications. Any advice?

You should have felt some relief within 24 hours. Sounds like they're going to have to manually drain that ear. You need to get moving on this.

I'd call your doc first thing Monday if you can handle it til then
Sounds like it needs to be drained or you need stronger antibiotics and pain relief
let us know what happens

Try sweet oil - you can get it in the eye and ear isle. Just soak a cotton ball with it and stuff it in your ear and leave it in over night. It should help dry the water.

I've never heard of water in your ear, fluid in your ear, yes. If you had fluid in your middle ear, it sounds like the antibiotic isn't kicking it. I know this sounds like it's over the top, but please be careful. My SIL was admitted to the hospital about a month and a half ago with meningitis. Turns out it started with a middle ear infection. She ended up with ancepalitis (sp) (commonally known as water on the brain) and on a respirator for over a week. She's still struggling for a complete recovery. If it is as bad as you describe, I would visit the ER. You also run the chance of rupturing your ear drum.

Hope you feel better soon. :huggy:
