Middle school aged children do not necessarily speak the opinions of their parents and their parents are not necessarily aware of the things their darlings say when in the company of their peers.

Middle school kids are horrible. They will shock you and not care. He probably didn't mean it and was saying it to make kids laugh. I used to be the same way in Jr. High.

I agree that a percentage of middle school students are horrible and push the envelope of accepted/expected behavior....but I also know that the majority of racism is learned at home and taught by prejudice parents.

I don't agree....completely. While I believe that some children parrot their parents, I think many children behave the OPPOSITE of and have beliefs OPPOSITE the parents, even if it's just to be obstinate.
And not to be picking, but are you speaking about white on black, hispanic, etc. racism or all forms?
Did you hear about the White House Rose Garden?
They are pulling it out to put in a watermelon patch.

Give it time, it'll happen. Might not even be a black kid; people like that tend to get their ass kicked for a variety of reasons.
