Sharing a tiny answered prayer

I know that God has unlimited Miracles to use for His children. I learned that when He took care of my colon cancer.

I am really grateful for that.....

Sunday School Teachers tell their young children to ask God to help them. We also teach them not to be selfish in their requests.

Well, yesterday and today.... I must admit I selfishly asked God to grant me a little miracle.

Yesterday I was out on the back deck doing something, and I clapped my hands together to dust off some dirt. I've lost a ton of weight due to the cancer and my fingers aren't as fat as they were. My wedding rings are a bit loose. As a matter of fact, I only put them back on last week.

Well when I clapped my hands, my rings flew off. Now the engagement ring hit a rung on the deck rail and bounced back onto the deck behind a deck chair. That was easy to retrieve, but my wide wedding band rolled across the deck, glistening in the sun as it went, and flew off the deck into some really thick bushes that run between the deck and the house. I got a flashlight [like they do on all the CSI searches] and tried my best to find my ring. The bushes were so thick tho, I couldn't see too much of the ground.

I have to admit, I said some really dirty words, but I proudly can proclaim that I didn't take my Lord's Name in Vain.... which is a major feat for me!

Then I said a little prayer. "Lord help me find my ring." I decided to let it go for the night since the weather forecast wasn't calling for rain anyway and the leaves and the bushes could dry out some more. I went in and told my husband what I had done. He agreed with me that it wouldn't hurt to cut the bushes back today. So the plan was formed.

Last night I had nightmares about my ring. After all I've worn that ring for over 30 years. It was a real heartbreak to have to take it off when my fingers got so small during the chemo. It was a triumph to gain back a little weight so I could wear it again. Now it was gone.... for the night....

This morning I got up and did my morning on-line postings, changed into some appropriate clothes, gathered the tools from the gardening shed and went to work. I cut back all the bushes and searched.... no ring.

I decided to clean the trimmings off of the deck before going any further.... maybe it hadn't gone down in the bushes... maybe I hadn't really seen it roll off the deck. So I grabbed a broom and started to sweep off the deck. We have one of those boxes that you store your garden hose reel in.... some bees have made their nest in there. The bees got really upset with me when I tipped that box over to clean out underneath it looking for my ring.

You should have seen it! I was saying... "Oh I am so sorry I upset you!!!!" and I was swatting at them with the broom to keep them from taking out their anger on me.... Now my bees have been nesting around the deck for almost 20 years. They know I don't bother them much.... we kind of coincide within a few feet of each other all summer long. And soon they did calm down.... of course a couple of them sat guard at the lip of the box, just in case I decided to mess with them some more.... but thankfully.... they didn't sting me....

Then I sat down in a chair, took a drink of cool water, and said this out loud. "Lord I know I'll find my ring because I asked you to help me find it. Now, where is it?" Then I grabbed the littlest rake we have and started pulling the leaves out from the area between the bushes and right below the deck. I put on gloves and sifted through the leaves I pulled out. No ring...

I asked Him one more time "Lord, where is my ring?" Then I got back up on the deck and looked down over the railing, pushing back a few more branches.... and there it was.... a little gold circle.... showing up in the rich black dirt right beside the deck support. I said "Oh there it is.... Thank you, Lord so much." and I figured out how to get my hand down there through the rail, blindly feeling around, trying not to bury it until I got it where I could see it and pull it up.

Now my bushes are happy.... the bees are happy.... I have my ring [in the jewelry box now] so I'm happy.... and I have a great story to post!

How wonderful is my Lord!

Gollum. Gollum. My precious!

Good for you, HC. Little prayers carry as much weight in God's eyes as any other.

Little prayers carry as much weight in God's eyes as any other.

Let's just say this is true. Then how do you explain God not lifting a finger to save 6 Million children in the world, under the age of 5, that die horrible deaths each year - primarily in 3rd world countries? They die in their mother's arms, some of them Christian, pleading to God to save their little boy or little girl. Their prayers will go unanswered. What kind of God would ignore this horrific scale of human suffering, and answer the "little" prayers of those who live in a comparative paradise on earth?

God would have to employ martial law, take away your rights and do a lot of things that you all wouldn't like. It is called the seven year tribulation and millennial reign. Don't pray for it. It will come soon enough.

I have no doubt that you are 100% certain of this. But the Muslims are also 100% certain in their faith. Who is right?

For those who make it to heaven, the facts you pointed out will make people never to want to sin again.

I can help only one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either.

I was not asking for your help Chuckt, just asking basic questions that you have no answers for, but nice to see you possess a sense of humor. You just might be human after all...a supremely deluded one however. Don't worry, the Catholics, the Muslims, the Hindus, the Mormons, are all gonna roast in hell...you however have no worries...

The true faith leads to God and the false faith was created by man. Choose wisely.

Nice quote chuckt, the only problem is the vast majority of people adopt the religion of the region they were born in. Had you been born and raised in India, you would be worshiping with 1.2 Billion Hindus and praying to multiple gods, including the monkey god Hanuman whom I would favor if I were Hindu. So you see chuckt, religion has nothing to do with "choice" and everything to do with geography.

Except that God revealed Himself to us.

Article X. The supreme judge by which all controversies of religion are to be determined, and all decrees of councils, opinions of ancient writers, doctrines of men, and private spirits, are to be examined; and in whose sentence we are to rest; can be no other but the Holy Spirit speaking in the Scripture.

-Westminster Confession of Faith

Some can hear him and others can't.

Hebrews 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

I wouldn't have joined anything if it wasn't for that.

The classic answer is that the world's religions are man's attempt to reach God where Christianity is God's attempt to reach man.

I have no doubt that you are 100% certain of this. But the Muslims are also 100% certain in their faith. Who is right?

You are certain of this but in order for the universe to act correctly, God has to be the center of our lives so unless we retain God as the center and as a result; the exclusive purpose for all of his divine actions then nothing will be accomplished down here except that God is kind to the evil so that they also will get a chance to come to Him.

Rose is right. Start your own thread, guys.

Hotcoffee, your story is wonderful and I am so happy for you and that you are at peace. You should become a writer. You have quite a talent for description and making someone want to read to the end of the story. Lots of hugs! :huggy:

I was looking at death a few months ago, remember? The doctors said that I had a few months to a couple of years and that's it, due to the cancer.

I knew that my family and friends would be sad and they would miss me.... but I also knew that I would be going to Heaven.... and I am ok with that. I mean... compare Heaven to life here on earth.... there's no comparison.

Who's to say what kind of life those children would have lived had they survived? Is it sad they are gone?.... definitely, our hearts break for their families. Are they better off in Heaven.... most definitely... I mean come on .... It's Heaven!

I've prayed for a lot of things that I didn't receive. I prayed that God would just take me home to Heaven when I found out I had to have more surgery, loose my job, put my family through yet another battle. I was willing and ready to go home to Heaven. My family knew how I felt. People here online in these forums knew how I felt. But God had other plans.

That's why I don't have religion.... I have faith.

My little tiny answered prayer may not mean anything to someone who is so embattled with religion that they can't enjoy a moment of happiness.

On the other hand.... my little tiny answered prayer means everything to me while I'm stuck here on earth instead of enjoying the translucent river that runs through Heaven.

My life here on earth is indeed a paradise compared to the lives of some. I enjoy being with my husband. I enjoy talking with my children and grandchildren. I enjoy counting the blessings I do have here.... it's not Heaven... but it is Paradise compared to the lives some of you seem to exist in.

All this bickering over religion.... it's only going to give you ulcers! Lighten up.... God has given us a beautiful life.... it's full of wonderful sites, smells, and sounds. Take a moment to enjoy them. Allow them to shine through your lives to others. Enjoy what God has granted us here.

It beats arguing over religion hands down....

I'm happy God granted me that little tiny answered prayer....

God answers prayers via yes, no, wait - in His time, for His purpose. Evil is in the world because of us and our sinful nature. God did not institute it. We did.

Quite possibly, HC finding her ring could very well not have been an answered prayer, but her approaching His throne of grace allowed her to open her eyes a bit more to the search she was on for her ring. Just praying to God encourages and strengthens the believer.
