Shark Fisherman Reels in Record Tuna

DEWEY BEACH, Del. - Fisherman Dan Dillon went out to sea in search of shark. He returned empty handed — at least as far as sharks are concerned.

Dillon, however, did reel in an 873-pound bluefin on Saturday, the biggest tuna on record in Delaware.
"I'll have fish stories forever now," said Dillon, 39, a commercial real estate executive from Herndon, Va. The monster fish was caught 40 miles off the southern Delaware coast.

Dillon used an 80-pound test monofilament line on an 80-pound class reel, using a bluefish fillet as bait.

Measuring 9 feet, 7 inches in length, 80 inches in girth, the fish outweighed the state's previous record catch by more than 500 pounds.

"I'm a big person and it makes me look small," said Dillon, who is 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds.

That's a LOT of tuna! And caught on 80-pound test line.

Most of the time they tow it in. The Japanese buyers wait at the dock, take a core sample for fat content and then they start bidding on it. That fish if it has good fat content could bring $$$$$$

If its the same guy, he was on the news, he's from the VA area... there was a tournament going on at the time and he didn't enter... if he had paid the $10.00 entry fee he would have won $350,000.00

This make me think of the fishing trip we went on last summer. My dad who has always been raised by the water, and always had a boat, finally got the chance to go deep sea fishing in Ocean City. He payed 1200 for a day trip out, we left at 6 in the morning, got back at 6 with the other boats, and we had one of the biggest catches of the day........It was a 48" yellowfin, weighed in around 65lbs. Go think, a yellowfin tuna, that ended up costing 1200. I think I could of gone to Giant or Woodburns and bought that much meat for cheaper.......but that does not give you the man bonding for the year.

We did get approached by one of the captains wanting to know if we would be interested in selling the fish. They had some so called investors looking to buy for Sushi restraunts in the area, and supposedly they pay pretty decent money.
