This is for everyone who was waiting to see him do something bad so they could write about it on here. :wench:

The 15-year-old Missouri boy who was rescued by police more than four years after he was abducted wants to turn his ordeal into something positive and help other families of missing children, his parents say.

Anybody who would want that poor kid to do something crazy is an idiot. He spent 4 years surviving under a tyrant and didn't crack. I'd like to see some of the people that post on these forums do that as an adult, much less as an 11 year old.

Oh for god sake, Get a grip. No one WANTS him to do anything. The point that was being made is that due to the 4 years of abuse, he is most certainly all kinds of messed up. You don't come out of something like that and return to being a normal kid.

And if you couldn't see the difference in mental state between him and the kid that was held for 4 days, you're blind.

You ladies sure do have a flair for drama. :drama: You state anything that isn't all touchy feely and it's meltdown city. :jameo:

:yay: now before i get the entire forum on my e-back, check out the original thread about him and look at all the negative comments. No one literally said they wanted him to do something bad, it just seems to me that everyone was betting on it practically

I'm still betting on it.

I fully hope that I am proven wrong though.

I agree, no one wishes him bad. But his body language says alot. He is very self conscience and uncomfortable. I creid watching him on Oprah and wish him the best in his life. But it aint gonna come easy. He may look like hes doing well now but lets wait and see how he is after it has all settled. God please guide this young soul in his journey and look out for him. Amen

Good for him. :yay: This will go a long way in helping him recover. He did mention worring about the other boy, that clued me in that he has a caring soul. Helping others is a good way to keep your mind off your own pain. I was also struck and uplifted in how he held his stepfather's hand through the interview, shows me they have a good relationship.

Good luck Shawn.

Oh and lets work on getting that 1 strike and you're out law :yay:

I did notice the closeness with his step father, the love they share, and that gave me hope. Although on the other hand I swear I saw him give his mom a look when he was talking about emailing them and hopeing they would be able to pick up on certain things, a look like " you should of known". It kinda sent chills if you know what I mean. He looked so hurt that she of all people didnt pick up on it.

I am so very blessed
I'm a little creeped out by all the interviews that the family is doing. It seems they are doing every single TV interview show in sight. Do they feel it somehow helps them heal to discuss the fact that their son probably was sexually abused on Oprah, Larry King, etc.?

First Shawn is identified as "the kid who was held captive for four years", and now he's "the kid who was probably sexually molested for all those years". It's one thing to have gone through that ordeal at all, but I'd imagine it is much more difficult to try to come to terms with his kidnapping and subsequent (possible/probable) molestation IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE WORLD.

Shawn needs counseling, not another camera in his face. :ohwell:

It is a little surprising to see him on those talk shows so quick after his return to his family. He did seem to have a good relationship with his stepfather, and the guy sure did seem to have a good grasp of as to what Shawn really needed at that moment and for the near future.

But, you know, I thought I heard his stepfather reply to one of the news reporters in the first news conference that Shawn would not be available to them for sometime; that he needed to come to grips with himself, to re-adjust, after what he'd been through(the last four years.)

But there he was, on those shows. I have to agree with BadGirl: what this kid needs is some counselling, not another camera in his face.
I just pray that he can cope(inside) with what we think happened to him during those four years.

OK, you had to know, or at least sense/imagine, that something abnormal went on during the 4 years this kid Shawn was held captive.

Think about it; four years in a completely different environment from which he had been used to, that he had been raised in. Did he believe the threats against him and his family were real? At 11 years of age, how do you cope with that?

We still don't know that much about Devlin, meaning was he a pedophile? So far, as much as I've read, we don't know if the kid had been abused. Odds are he was, but it's not surfaced yet.

The pictures? Hmmmm, a way of reaching out, or venting, or pleading for help?

Still, too many imagined questions, without answers. It's going to take a while longer for this kid to come to grips with what it was that he went through, to try and grasp what it meant to him, being confined that long a time, before he can speak of it in a logical sense - if there is one.

Official: Abducted teen assisted alleged captor

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16927117/
ST. LOUIS - Abducted teen Shawn Hornbeck was ordered to guard fellow captive Ben Ownby and hide him from police when they were repeatedly left alone in their captor’s apartment, an official close to the investigation told The Associated Press on Thursday.
Shawn’s cooperation stemmed from the isolation and abuse he experienced in the first 30 days after he was kidnapped in 2002, said the official, who requested anonymity, citing a lack of authorization to speak publicly about the case.

Shawn, then 11 years old, was so traumatized after that first month that he began to see Michael Devlin, accused of kidnapping both boys, as his protector and surrogate parent, the official said, adding that such a reaction is common among abuse victims.
I knew something smelled fishy. For once, I agreed to a point with Billo and Billo was right. I still think that there is more to this. I imagine he was threatened into this whole deal...
