The Tri-County Animal Shelter has joined with The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and Fresh Step® cat litter to kickoff “Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month” in the month of June.

To help find loving homes for cats, the Tri-County Animal Shelter, in partnership with the ASPCA and Fresh Step® litter, is promoting a fee-waived cat adoption program this month.

The ASPCA estimates that more than four million cats and kittens enter animal shelters nationwide each year. The Tri-County Animal Shelter will take in more than 600 cats during the month of June. Many of these cats are loving, friendly house cats looking for a new home. You can view many of our cats in our free, roaming cat room on our new cat cam: Charles County Government Cat Cam LIVE.

In the cat room, not only will you see the kittens running and playing, but you can also view long-time residents like Layla—the Domestic Longhair queen of the cat room—who likes to be petted when she allows you. Mika—a Domestic Shorthair calico—was so thin when she came into the shelter, you could see every bone in her body; she has now put on weight and loves to be with people.

Layla and Mika are just a couple of the many cats available for adoption. So, if you've thought of adding a feline to your family, join the Tri-County Animal Shelter as we celebrate national Adopt-a-Cat-Month in June.

Adopting cats aged six months old and up is free. Looking for a kitten? Kittens have a special price of $45. Kittens are eight weeks to five months old. Come out and adopt one of our feline friends during the month of June.

The Tri-County Animal Shelter is located at 6707 Animal Shelter Road in Hughesville. Shelter staff can be reached at 301-932-1713 or 800-903-1992. Citizens with special needs may contact the Maryland Relay Service at 711, or Relay Service TDD: 800-735-2258.

Adoption hours are Monday through Friday, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. If you would like to view our animals that are available for adoption, visit: Charles County Government-ES-Animal Control or Tri-County Animal Shelter to find your “purrfect” pet.

We've been on the fence about Layla. Been visiting and trying to get her to let us interact and she's not having it. Can you offer any info about her personality?
