During the week of July 19– July 25, deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1,500 calls for service throughout the community.

Animal Complaint: 21-41465


On July 25, 2021, DFC Gilmore responded 5th Street between Chesapeake Ave and Bay Ave in North Beach to assist MDFC Cress with a dog locked in an unattended vehicle. Upon arrival, DFC Gilmore observed a four door passenger car bearing DC tags, with all of the windows up, sunroof closed, and a small white dog inside the vehicle with no water source. Deputy Cress removed the dog from the vehicle and placed it in his patrol car. Deputies noted the outdoor temperature at the time was 87 degrees, but observed the temperature inside the vehicle noticeably warmer. Animal Control responded and took possession of the dog.

Animal Complaint: 21-41461

On July 25, 2021, Deputy Gilmore responded to 4160 Mears Ave in Chesapeake Beach for the report of a dog locked in an unattended vehicle, a U-Haul rental van. Upon arrival, Deputy Gilmore observed a white, Pit Bull style puppy inside a small pet crate in the cargo area of the van. The puppy was lying on his back, panting hard and appeared to be in distress. Deputy Gilmore removed the dog from the crate, leashed him, and gave him some cool water. The dog was not wearing a collar and no collar/leash was found in the vehicle. Animal Control responded and took possession of the puppy.

Damaged Property: 21-40602

On July 21, 2021, Deputy Contic responded to Calvert Marina located at 14485 Dowell Road in Solomons for the report of damaged property. The complainant advised sometime between July 17 and July 19, unknown suspect(s) removed multiple wooden handrail posts in the pavilion. The estimated value of damaged property is $500.00.

Theft: 21-41045

On July 23, 2021, Cpl. Jacobs received report of a theft. The complainant came to the Sheriff’s Office to report unknown suspect(s) stole his handicapped placard from his vehicle parked in the 2800 block of Beach Drive in Huntingtown. The estimated value of stolen property is unknown at this time.

Theft: 21-41277

On July 24, 2021, Cpl. Jacobs responded to 1300 block of Flag Harbor Blvd. in St. Leonard for report of a theft from an auto. The complainant advised sometime between July 22 at 3 p.m. and July 23 at 11 a.m., unknown suspects stole a pair of black framed Diff sunglasses from her vehicle. The estimated value of stolen property is unknown at this time.

ARRESTS

Patrick Dorelle Brooks, 41 of Chesapeake Beach, MD


On July 21, 2021, Deputy Strong responded to the 3300 block of Broomes Island Road in Port Republic for the report of an auto accident with property damage. Deputy Strong arrived on scene to discover an unoccupied vehicle off the roadway into a ditch. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Patrick Dorelle Brooks, 41 of Chesapeake Beach, MD was located 50 yards from the crash site. A search of the vehicle revealed a white powdery substance (suspected cocaine) stored in two clear baggies in pain view, in addition to multiple empty miniature bottles of liquor and multiple open beer bottles. Brooks was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with CDS: Possession- Not Marijuana.

Canzania LaMarie Hall, 22 of Chesapeake Beach, MD


On July 20, 2021, Deputy W. McDowell conducted a traffic stop in the area Rt. 260 and Boyd’s Turn Road in Owings. Contact was made with the occupants of the vehicle and it was revealed that one of the passengers, Canzania LaMarie Hall, 22 of Chesapeake Beach, MD, was wanted on an active warrant through Maryland State Police (MSP). A search of the vehicle revealed, several cut straws containing a white powdery residue (suspected cocaine) throughout the vehicle, in addition to a plastic bag of suspected cocaine and a paper rolled cigarette containing suspected marijuana. Hall was placed into the custody of MSP due to her active warrant. A secondary search revealed one plastic bag containing a white powdery substance (suspected cocaine) and one plastic bag containing suspected marijuana on Hall’s person. Hall was then transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where she was charged CDS: Possession-Not Marijuana.

Joseph Jomal McGainey, 32 of Brandywine, MD


On July 24, 2021, Deputy Sturdivant conducted a traffic stop in the area of Rt. 260 and Kidwell Lane in Owings. Contact was made with the driver who failed to provide a valid driver’s license and initially provided a false name and date of birth. A search of the vehicle revealed a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance (suspected cocaine), a metal spoon with a white powdery residue, and a scale. A further search revealed a Rock Island 1911 45 caliber handgun located in a backpack that was placed next to a small child in the rear of the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Joseph Jomal McGainey, 32 of Brandywine, MD had an active warrant through Charles County. McGainey was arrested and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center where he was charged with multiple gun charges, child neglect, and traffic related offenses.
