I've been thinking about getting my daughter a Shih-tzu for Easter. She wants something small. Just curious how Shih-tzu's temperment are? Are they easy to potty-train...etc? TIA

Do a search on the breed on the net. Find out all you can to see if it will fit your family and your lifestyle.
Animals given as gifts are not always a good idea...make sure you want a commitment that is going to last the lifetime of the dog - which could be 10-15 yrs...

Shih Tzu's need regular grooming. Lots of brushing and combing. They tend to have skin problems and tearing under the eyes. Most of the Shih Tzus I groom are OK temperment wise, as long as they are properly socialized.
Do your research, stay far far away from anything that looks like a puppy mill, and while dogs and kids are great together a dog should be part of the whole family so everyone has part of the responsibility.

My mom n law gave my son one for his 7th b-day, without asking. But anyway, the dog is very loving, but needs daily grooming. Ours maintains a puppy cut, since my DH and son won't groom him. These type dogs also get there own feces. Ours has roam of the house 24/7 with a doggy door. Grooming would be the issue with any long hair dog, on the bright side they don't shed........

Recently got a puppy shih-tzu, I would not trade her for the world, have had no troubles at all, she using the yard all the time and only took her a few weeks to do that. They are very loving, and love attention. They do need brushing and caring for but then so do the chidlren.

The ones I have been in contact with can be mean. The spaniel breed are very sweet dogs.

What a cutie pie. SIL raises them and sells them here in the county..

I on the other hand have my 3rd, Shih Tuz, they are the best. I think they have more personaility then the CKCS. JMO, My little one is a snuggle bug and gets along with the 80 lb Lab. They are best buds.
