Got a report that they heard what sounded like gunshots as a car passed down the road.... About 845pm. Any confirmation?

And we have the sheriff to thank for keeping us in the dark (scanner activity not open to the public). I wonder if Mr. Hall will reverse this....oh hell what am I thinking - of course he won't. He will be no different than our current sheriff.

That's sad isnt it?

IMHO cops should be hassling these people constantly. It isnt as if any of these types are unknown to police.

It's been a while since I've fired up my scanners for police traffic - did they move to encrypted transmissions a la MPD and many other LE agencies?

Yep, maybe 5-7 years ago, I think. I wouldn't mind the encryption so much if they actually kept the public informed like they said they would.

That's just not cool. I'm good for digital and spread spectrum, but I think it's generally a crime to be in possession of decryption keys...

LOL. In addition to having my property licensed for onshore and offshore waterfowl blinds, a bunch of the neighbors having the same, deer hunting in our woods, we get a clean acoustic path from the Harry Lundeberg shooting range. On occasion there is some pretty large caliber full-auto shooting going on over there. Earlier this week they had a quite a few shooters going at the same time...sounded like .223/5.56.

According to google earth we live at the opposite end of this acoustic path. It does make me hope their berms are high !!

To clarify my post - I was only talking about the sheriff and his likely successor shutting down the police scanner to the general public. I was not commenting on their crime fighting policies.
