Prince George’s County Police Department Gun Crimes Unit detectives charged two suspects in connection with a recent shooting. The suspects are 37-year-old Carlas Carter and 26-year-old Mary Ashby, both from Alexandria, VA. They are charged with fatally shooting 26-year-old Tamara Jones of Washington, DC.

On November 26, 2024, at approximately 2:45 am, officers responded to a shooting in the 6200 block of Oxon Hill Road in Oxon Hill. Officers located Jones inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. She died of her injuries on November 29, 2024.



The preliminary investigation revealed the suspects shot the victim during a dispute. The suspects and victim were known to each other.


Carter and Ashby are charged in connection with the shooting. With the assistance of the Fairfax County Police Department and Alexandria City Police Department, the suspects were taken into custody in Virginia where they remain pending extradition to Prince George’s County.
