Shutter Island

This seems awesome. Martin Scorsese almost never fails to deliver a quality motion picture (I was so glad he won a long-overdue Oscar for The Departed) and the cast is great. I've never read the Dennis Lehane novel it's based on, but always meant to. I should before this comes out. Anyway, here's the trailer:

:yay: That looks very interesting. I had not seen/heard anything about it until you posted the trailer. Thanks.

This wasn't Scorsese's best but it was interesting nonetheless. A lot of folks in the theatre were squirming because the film is about 2 and 1/2 hours in length. I'm more than fine with that if the film keeps me interested, which it did.

The film was captured beautifully. Picturesque scenery with a great setting, on an island with a mental institution. I thought the acting was decent enough.

Although you can probably guess the ending the film keeps you in wonderment. It keeps you guessing and asking yourself, is this how it's really going to end? Scorsese sends us on a mind-trip through DiCaprio. I will definitely be renting this when it comes out on blu ray to catch any hints or easter eggs I missed before.

Sounds like the kind of place I could have fun photographing. (Speaking of shutters...) Does look compelling, and I have mentally marked it as one I'd like to eventually see.

I can't wait to see this movie! The previews definitely make it look intriguing. I think I'll take girl to it next weekend. :yay:

I read the book and I thought it was very good. Didn't end how I thought it would which I love. Not sure I'll make it to the theatre to see it but will definitely catch it when it's released to PPV.

Girl and I went to see Shutter Island this afternoon. I left somewhat disappointed. The movie was loooong and drawn out. You knew what was going on within the first 30 minutes, which pretty much took all the suspense away from the remainder of the movie. All the good trailer scenes are w/in the first 5 minutes.

On a scale of 1-10, I might rank this movie a 6.5, maybe a 7. :ohwell:

See, I don't think the film is aimed at an end result. If you're looking for that reward then you'll be sorely disappointed. As you mentioned, you can guess the ending but I believe Scorsese accounted for as much. There are an innumerable amount of hints and symbolism within the film to lead the viewer to what the ending is to become.

I think, as with Taxi Driver, Scorsese takes this film and peers into the depths of one man's mind. He shows you how crazy he can become when certain experiences are mixed with certain settings. I thought this was interesting and not so much the ending, which can be determined by my 10 year old sister who was also watching.

Maybe I'm over thinking/analyzing the movie. The scenes were great, good pictures/photography and acting. Lots of mind tricks and it really makes you wonder about sanity (or lack of) in general.

BL, did you jump out of your seat during the one "loud" scene? OMG, that scared the crap out of me.

Yeah, I'm not easily rattled. I was even expecting "something like that" to happen. It caught me off guard though.

I'm gonna' rent this when it comes out.

Saw it tonite. Not worth the full admission price. Dragged on forever and a little confusing. Goood acting but script is crap. Its a rental.

I saw it last night and thought it was a great movie. :yay: I'd have preferred to have seen it from the comfort of my own living room, as it was a bit long but I'd definitely recommend it as a dvd rental.
