Are those license plate/taillights that mount to the rear axle nut legal in MD or does it have to be on the fender? I was thinking about cutting my rear fender up and running one of those, but I don't know the rules.

I beleive that as long as it is displayed somewhere in the back that it's legal

I know a couple of guys that build custom bikes and they have put them to the side on a lot of them because of the back fender

My uncle made a bracket that curved the license plate and mounted to the sissy bar.

I know when he was doing the work he was going to do the side mount but he wanted to do something a little different.

must be horizontal, vertical will get you a ticket if they want to be a dic. . yes it looks stupid horizontal and better vertical but thats the way they wrote the law.

Yes, it's illegal also. However, I just modded my bike with one and am going to take the chance. It was a PITA since most vertical license plate holders accomodate 3x7 plates and not MD/WI oversized plates.
