USCG is offering $50K signing bonuses for recruits that go on to become Culinary Specialists.
CS is the lowest asvab scoring rate in the navy. Now that they have done away with the signalman rate. Many navy cooks wanted to do something else but all they barely passed the entrance test that a monkey could pass just by guessing the answers.

Thats how my mom made it, from the chipped beef in that glass jar, at basic it was wtf is this?
As one was shoveling it in.
That's how I make it, learned from mom.
I make my roux with butter and flour, then add whole milk.

I cut up the chipped beef and run water over it in a colander to de-salt it a bit.
Season with a bit of black pepper.

My wife makes a real good sausage gravy,
She makes her roux with the sausage drippings.

I have the official CG recipe for the ground beef version, although the quantities are for 75-100 servings.

I found a recipe online supposedly for the "official" US Navy version of SOS. It used tomato sauce/paste in it though. Has anybody ever had that???

Well, I got separated 14? Years ago I went on a few dates with the woman that ran the kitchen at St Indigos. She spoke well about what she served the coasties.
It was all good till it came out from one of my bil's when we were talking that she was married.
