Tom Shales doesn't get it. Football has always been a brutal sport. Its core audience has always been young men, the men who buy beer and read Maxim and swap breast jokes. The Dallas Cowboys have known this for 30 years--that's why they came up with the Cheerleader outfits. It's a sport of testosterone and brutality. I would have a hard time taking my daughters to a game.
At least baseball, despite the shenanigans of many players, still has somewhat of a family atmosphere. (While muttering under my breath at paying $7 for a hot dog...)
The negative vibes given off by so many off-color or violent commercials put a soggy cloud over what was supposed to be an evening of wholesome fun.
