we are looking for somewhere to do a horse riding lesson for a 5 year old.

Called one place but they said they won't do just a single lesson and they don't offer packages this time of year.

we know she won't get much from a single lesson, we're mostly just looking for a pony ride anyway. just want to give her a chance to experience it once before deciding if grandma and grandpa are going to pay for lessons in the spring. Don't want them to pay for a month of lessons if she's gonna freak out the first time she's on the horse.

Try Woodbury Equestrian Center. If they don't have a suitable pony they may be able to point you in another direction. A safe, established program is paramount for your daughter. Good luck!

My co-worker has a small farm in hollywood that has an instructor that teaches english riding lessons. She said she always starts the kids off with an evaluation lesson or two, for that very reason that some kids just dont like it once they are on the horse.
