Sites that won't open

I didn't want to post this but I'm stumped. I can't open certain sites like CNN, Google some other sites and also AIM messanger won't sign on. Most sites I don't have a problem with but a handful just won't open, they time out. I've tried everything I can think of so now I am hoping someone might have had this problem and can give me an idea of what to do to fix it.

Is this only on internet exploder? If so can you install Fire Fox and try it?

Also any chance you have Norton installed?

Yes, it happens on internet explorere. I don't have Norton installed, I haven't installed anything in a while, this just started yesterday. How do you get Fire Fox?

If you have firewall software installed, it may be firewalling you. You would need to check the list of exclusions in the firewall software. I'm being vague because there are too many possibilities to step you thru. You could also disable the firewall and/or security software to see if that's the issue.

I tried something that I didn't think would work but it did. I made CNN my home page and it opened right up. Also, Google opened too. That is really strange.

Can you delete your history and your cache? Technically this shouldn't fix anything but I am wondering if something really simple is messed up.

Good advice...also, if you go to Tools, Internet Options, then the Advanced tab...at the bottom is "restore defaults". Click that and see if it helps. Sometimes it works miracles...sometimes it will just laugh at you.

Tried both of these, thanks. But since I made CNN my home page, I haven't had any more problems. I still stumped on why that worked, but oh well. I haven't come across any more sites that wouldn't open, so I'll just leave it the way it is.
