Luke 8:22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!
He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.

When I was going through the Bible before, I learned that the lake was a bowl. It's subject to sudden violent storms. The cool water against the sun warmed air trapped in a natural bowl with hills against the shoreline, causes violent mini storms. Think dirt devils over the lake. I learned that in Sunday School. I'm glad most of the people who would read this post live near the water. Y'all know about squalls. Have you ever seen a squall just stop? The dirt it would have riled up just dropped. The wind just stopped, anything it was carrying, just dropped. The waves that are so constant in their construction and design just slumped to "slick calm". [slick cam (n.): A very calm water, typically used with reference to the sound ("It was a slick cam out there today"). Cam is pronounced so that it rhymes with ram.] If you live near the water, and you have seen a squall, you know just how unusual this is!

Dr. Luke would have heard this story from the guys who were actually in the boat with Jesus. I ask myself, why would Dr. Luke write this, since it's not a healing and his synopsis is from the eyes of a healer. Jesus had tremendous powers. Luke just told us about the widow's son. That man was dead. Remember, I asked if he had been embalmed. The man was on his funeral bier headed to the freshly opened hole! No... he wasn't embalmed. It's a Jewish tradition from Genesis, ashes to ashes, you know. Jesus healed him anyway. Told him to sit up and he did it! So, I think Dr. Luke included this story about the boat to remind people, in this next chapter, what miraculous things Jesus did with a shrug!

Jesus may have been born from a woman's womb like a human, but He was way better than human.

When Jesus said, "Where is your faith?" did He mean "My dad wouldn't let anything happen to me yet"?

Jesus was there on a mission. He was there to put an end to death. Dying in a storm at sea would not be part of God's plan for His Son. Let's face it, if Jesus died in a storm at sea [or lake] there would have been "nothing to see here". People would have talked about what a good doctor He was. Jesus wanted them to have faith in the Mission. Have faith in God's plan!

Jesus barked the wind and the waves responded.
