What does a Sling adapter do?
The Sling adapter is a USB device that you plug into your Dish Network DVR receiver and it literally "slings" the broadcast into cyberspace (through your internet connection in your DVR), which then allows you to watch live TV on your phone via the Dish Network app that you download.
I actually received the Sling adapter last week, hooked it up and was able to watch TV on my Droid - for all of about 2 days. Apparently, I have bad hardware in my DVR receiver that was just installed and I am going to have a one put in (it keeps dropping the wireless signal on my network which then causes the app to say that I'm not connected to the internet, which is a requirement to watch the live TV).
However, for the time that I did have it, I must say it was pretty cool. You have a grid which gives you what is currently on TV and then you simply choose the show to watch. It will ask whether you want to watch it on your phone or your tv and voila - you have live TV on your phone.
Hopefully, swapping out the receiver is going to cure my problem.
