I'm watching...but being in Calvert, I'm curious, aren't they the same things that are at the Rod N Reel? The bus tons of people in to the "casinos" they have there.

There's a distinction, apparently, between "slots" and "video games that give money". They had pics of the Brass Rail, interviews with Cameron and Russell. The gaming commission still wants their piece of the pie and wants to ensure the donations are being made to non-profits.

At the Rod N Reel, there's a huge room upstairs and then a large non-smoking room (but they are probably both non-smoking now) full of slots just like they showed on television. You push a button and then the payout is in a little slip of paper that you take to a "booth" and get your cash. I'll bet there are hundreds of those machines (all denominations) in each of those rooms.

If you want to play one ,you better get down there quick, they wont last long IMO.
I checked them out this weekend at Fred's Liquor, where they have turned their storage room into a slot room. Carpentry was going on all around the machines and no one seemed to be bothered . Too busy pushing the "play" button.

Roy Dyson has already tried to get the County to ban them ,if that fails he may be forced to come out in the open against them, instead of getting the County to do his dirty work for him.

These things have to be hurting the Lotto and Keno gambling that the state endorses.
As far as I know ,no permits have been issued No licenses, which if they stay will surely come. You can bet if they are allowed the Gubmint will have to get their cut.

The big money folks have been counting on getting slots at Horse Tracks and other places owned by Multi-millionaires and I am sure they have already invested in buying politicians for that purpose, Therefore these politicians cannot allow slots in St. Mary's.

However while it lasts some non-Profits in the County and some County owned Businesses are reaping the bounty, and getting some much needed funds. Some people who would gamble anyway are being saved the trip to Dover , and the money is going into the Community instead of to gas stations and Gambling halls in Delaware.

IMO the slots should have never left the Counties that had them years ago. I also would like to see the State stop beating around the bush and allow full fledged Casino's. It would bring a lot of jobs into the County and help lower some of the highest taxes of any state in America.

I picture a $5.00 Prime Rib Buffet at the St. Mary's landing, with shrimp appetiser.
cant wait. LMAO as if that would ever happen. Well it works for Vegas.

IMO the only way that the state would see a significant increase in dollars in to make full fledge casinos legal. Right now everyone rom MD, DC, VA, and PA are going to NJ and WV just to play slots. In order to get a leg up MD needs to make full fledge casinos legal. Otherwise we are going to continue to loose out on a lot of tax money that we could be capitalizing on. We would not only benefit from the tax money from the casinos but the surrounding business as well. If the state could regulate the growth and control the casinos enough to make sure we don't have anoter vegas strip or atlantic city with them stacked on top of each other I think it is a win, win.

I know that a lot of people oppose the legalized gambling thing because they are affraid of increased prostitution, crime & drugs. My thoughts on this are that there are ways to control that. For example, wifey and I were in Omaha, NE lsat year and right across the rive in Council Bluffs, IA there were 3 casinos. The whole town was neat, clean and not once did we feel that there was a problem of any of the above mentioned items.

The fact of the matter is this. If the state keeps increasing taxes and the costs of living keeps going up, there will be more and more problems with Prositution, Crime and Drugs because people are going to do what they have to to live. At least with the added tax monies and increased employment the state and counties would have more resources available to them and would allow the economy to grow.

Just my 2 cents.

PA has slots and casinos now. Started the same way Maryland is heading, only the race tracks and a few other spots. Of course the big money race track owners took full advantage of it, you can't even go watch the horse race now, you have to watch on TV inside the casino????
