I know how to do most small engine repairs (I used to have a lawnmore repair business). What seems to be the problem?kom526 said:I am looking for suggestions on where to take my riding mower to get repaired. What are you doing Saturday after next (April the twoth)? We can set up a troubleshooting (and hopefully repair) session at my place.kom526 said:It seems to be an electrical problem. I used to be able to get it started by pouring some gas into the carb and jumping it. (real safe I know) Now it doesn't do squat. I have had the valve guides replaced and that worked for about two weeks then nothing. Maybe Kohler doesn't make that good of an engine. Sorry to be so technical (lol). I just need it to get through one more season, and it is frustrating as hell.![]()

OOPS I goofed - I suspect the family's going to be here for a belated birthday celebration. Week after that, maybe?Railroad said:What are you doing Saturday after next (April the twoth)? We can set up a troubleshooting (and hopefully repair) session at my place.
9 April sounds great to me and I really do appreciate you offering your help. Just pm the directions and a time that is good for you and I'll be there. Once again, thanks!Railroad said:OOPS I goofed - I suspect the family's going to be here for a belated birthday celebration. Week after that, maybe?

Had to jump it every time also, even with a fresh battery. Maybe I'll get some goats and sheep.Oz said:Clarence Smith & Sons in Callaway 301-994-1566
Actually, I think the son is running the business now. Either way, a good choice.
If it starts when you pour fuel into the carb, that wouldn't indicate an electrical problem. Probably improper storage has led to gum in the carburetor. Try to get it running and spray gum cutter into the opening to see if that clears it up. Could also be as simple as old gas or water in the fuel. If the gas in the tank has been there since last summer, get it out of there, clean the carb, and start over with fresh gas. Gasoline has a "shelf life" of about 90 days.
