Small Fry seems to be making a habit of going to the vet. They suggested possible herpes virus, but I don't believe he was actually tested. It goes away after a while though, right? He has to go back in again today for some loose poopies (daily) and vomiting (every few days). He seems to vomit food and then bile at separate times/locations. Is this anything you all have seen before? I'm hoping he's just being a susceptible kitten and this will all go away as he gets older. Poor baby has just had it rather rough the past few months.

Ohhh. I just made myself wanna go home and hug my bubby. :calls vet:

I didn't think herpes virus caused vomiting and diarrhea. It's more like a cold that flares up. You can give them L-Lysine and that will keep the flare-ups in check most of the time. Sometimes they'll have eyes that run and respiratory symptoms. Each flare-up can be different and last a day or two or longer.

As for the L-Lysine you can crush up pills and put it on their food (no taste) or you can spend a little more and order the powder from a place like Fosters & Smith.

Is this new for him? Did he exhibit any of these symptoms while at his foster moms? What's he eating?

Mom said he didn't seem to be eating much this morning (he usually tries to eat his and Nacho's food). I've tried the L-Lysine for his eyes, but I wanted to go back and get the pump from the vet today. This is new for him, at least the eyes and stomach problems. Got an appointment for 10:30 today, I'll let you know how it goes when I get back.

He had an eye infection when he came to us. Remember?

My cat got very very sick after we adopted him a few years (he was just a little kitten). He had a bad URI, which the vet said triggered a feline herpes outbreak. For him it was just goopy eyes and I had to put some cream on his eyes every day for a couple weeks. He's about 2 and a half years old now and hasn't had another outbreak since.

Did he have an eye infection too? Goodness. I just remember having to deal with his smelly ears. Poor baby, he just can't get a break.

So the vet said to just go overkill with the hairball goo. About 2 tablespoons. Won't hurt him at all. He's going to LOVE that. Nacho's going to get jealous, we're going to have to get some more tubes of the stuff. Got some probiotics in case the poopies don't get better as well, and the L-Lysine pump stuff. Oh, and some beef toothpaste. He seems to have some swelling over some of his teeth.

Too bad it would pretty much defeat the purpose to give him the hairball goo as a treat after brushing his teeth.

I am absolutely covered in orange fur

Yeah, I have drops for Fry's eyes but the swelling keeps coming back and I've got to start them again. Hopefully he'll go after the L-Lysine pump like he does the hairball goo, it should help. He figured out what was in those Pill Pockets pretty fast.
