My BFF is a Pit Bull!
St. Mary's Animal Welfare League is putting on their annual Animal Fair on May10 at the St. Mary's Fair Grounds. The event is from 10am - 3pm. Leashed pets are welcome. I also know they are doing a "Parade of Breeds" type thing with horses. Lots of vendors and rescue groups, cute contest type stuff as well.

The charge is $5 for adults (I don't know about kids) and animals FREE. :)

All proceeds go to help animal rescue.

It is supposed to be AWESOME this year! They are going to have the largest amount of rescue groups and vendors ever! I set up as a vendor there for the past 2 years...already have an obligation with the Greenbelt Animal Shelter; otherwise I would attend. I did donate a nice first aid kid for pets for the Chinese Auction...
The parade is great...it gives me goosebumps to think about it! You have to be there to appreciate it.

I'll be there with the Calvert K-9 Search Team. I'm taking Sam (my airscent dog) and Inara (my tacker). We have our bloodhound (Elvis) and a GSD (Vegas) also coming.

We're going to promote SAR and talk to people about it. If we get any volunteers that will be great too. We've been working real hard to get business cards, logos, uniforms, etc together for this event. We're a brand new team and it's a lot of work. :) Totally worth it though.

Our dogs go for their National Certification test in June so we are all REALLY excited about that. :)

I have a leash for my bearded dragon.... on second thought if I bring him he may become dog food. I saw a huge iguana there one year and of course snakes, ferrets and then there is that pig that wears the heart shaped glasses and the motorcycle jacket.

Children under 12 are free! There should be an ad in the Weekender section of the paper in all three county papers on May 2nd and 9th which will have the schedule of special events, but some of the highlights are:

Pet Pageant - 11AM
Dog Agility Demo 11:30AM
Parade of Horse Breeds 12:00PM
All Animal Pet Parade 1:00PM Everyone welcome to participate.
Rescue groups participating---please consider bringing a sign or banner to identify your organization.

Pet Blessing 1:30PM
Woof It Down, Owner & Pet Pie Eating Contes 2:00 PM
Dog Musical Sit 2:30PM

I understand that there are OVER 50 vendors and rescues attending! Some of the rescues are coming from Bowie, Severna Park, Abingdon, Silver Spring, and Virginia. This could easily become one of the biggest rescue events in southern MD in the years to come. :banana:
