The St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League (SMAWL) is always in need of foster homes. SMAWL does not currently have a shelter, so our animals are kept in foster homes while waiting their furever homes. Therefore, we can only rescue as many dogs and cats as we have foster homes for. There are always more animals who need rescued than there are foster homes to house them. Fostering is very rewarding! There is no feeling like knowing that because of you, a dog or cat was given a second chance at life. Many of these dogs and cats have been abused, neglected or abandon and all they want is someone to love them, reassure them, and provide them with a safe haven. SMAWL will provide the food and veterinarian care, if you will provide the love and safe haven. Saying goodbye to your foster cat or dog is sometimes difficult, but when you see the happiness in their eyes when they meet their furever families it makes it all worthwhile. Besides just around the corner is another dog or cat who is waiting for the special love and attention that only a foster home can provide. We need you now! If by now you are saying, "How do I get started?" Then let me say it couldn't be easier. Go to SMAWL - St. Mary's Animal Welfare League: Home Page fill out a volunteer form and you on your way to becoming a foster family.

Help a pet

Hello Friends,

Unfortunately it is raining dogs here in the county. The following dogs were either strays that no one is looking for, intentionally abandoned or pulled from Tri-county animal shelter. All are in need of foster homes. They have been vetted and are looking for a foster home. If you have room in your hearts and home for just one more please let us know.

Ironman beagle, male, Very sweet, housebroken, Age 2 will be neutered soon, fine with other dogs. Most likely abandoned or a stray no one is looking for.

Abella, Terrier mix, Very sweet, housebroken, about 2 yrs, has been spayed, fine with other dogs, she is shy at first. She does need some leash work. Abella was a stray that was pulled out of Tri-county animal shelter.

Hudson # Beagle, male, very sweet, Housebroken, Age 2, is under heartworm treatment and will be neutered after treatment is completed, Is fine with other dogs. Most likely abandoned or a stray no one is looking for.

If you can help, please contact Maureen, bernsm@md.metrocast.net or Sandy, slbjgb2@verizon.net. Thank you.

Help "Invisible Dogs"
Being a foster home is one of the greatest gifts a person can give to homeless animals.

I always look at it like I'm a bridge - I'm the passing station from where they were to their forever home.

Think about it, if you have room in your heart and in home, this is truly one of the best ways you can help rescue.
