This is the coldest winter we have had in years! How did you burn so little? At our old house we were burning through 200+ gallons a month! It was old and inefficient as all get out. I love my natural gas now!

His house is freezing.

Seriously, I believe he burns his wood stove. Ott and I have used very little oil as well, we supplement by using our wood stoves in the evening and on weekend.

Well that would explain it.

I was spending more than $600.00 a month at one point in time for oil. I think it ruined me for ever having an oil furnace again.

2 years ago I put in over $4K in new windows and weather stripped. HUGE difference. Southern Maryland Windows and Siding (Advertisers here) did it and they were awesome. Noticed the difference right away.

We had a lot of wood this year from trees I cleared and the neighbors so we burned quite a bit on weekends. I was bracing for a big bill in Feb so this was quite a surprise. If I replaced my old furnace with a newer one that is more efficient it might even get better. I just checked and I wrote the last check to SMO on 12/7 and it was $329 so I burn roughly just under 300 gallons a year.

It is not. I have a programmable thermostat set to 68 when we are home and 63 at night and when we are gone.

On weekends we use the wood stove some times. This year a bit more. I don't use the wood stove during the week because it is a pain and it is only the boy and I so its not worth it.

BOXER NATION
Just bought oil from Burch @ $2.8990. We live in a 50 year old house and have only burnt 179 gals. this year. Just had a second delivery of 150. - should last the winter.
New windows, five year old HVAC, programmable thermostat (the biggest bang for the buck), every time we went to Lowes we picked up a busted roll of insulation and put it in the attic. Case after case of caulking! We have a fireplace - never use it - like having a hole it the wall.
:buddies:
I forgot one thing, this house has no insulation in the walls. Just that old time black panel stuff.
