This oughta be interesting. I don't remember how we all got our $300 from Bush - did the gov just send us all checks or was it direct deposited?

And is getting a check supposed to make me feel better about the government shutting everything down and putting people out of work? Remind me again what that's called, where there is no private industry and the government provides all your needs.....

Are you equivocating a communist society to temporary emergency measures? Has the private industry been eliminated or just temporarily shut down, in many cases voluntarily? Is the government providing all our needs or is Trump temporarily providing the equivalent of a capital infusion to keep the economy afloat during this emergency?

I think the larger issue here is the fact that it has been, what, a few weeks since the virus hit, and even less time since qurantines, closings, and overall crackdowns on public gatherings happened and yet Americans need money?

We're collectively living on credit with little to no savings and not even a month in and we need a trillion + in stimulus. What happens when stuff really hits the fan?

This is a great example on why you should have an emergency savings account with a minimum of 6-months of expenses.

I don't disagree with this, and did that as much as I could while I was working. But interestingly, once you retire, your income is pretty much fixed, but almost guaranteed. I say almost, because Social Security could go fail, my pension could go away, and my IRA be depleted to 0, but all of those things are highly unlikely in the short term. I, and other retirees, are not dependent on working for a monthly check, so us retired 'boomers' are doing ok at the moment.

Not to mention they have now promised to test for free when they are able.

If you listen and read carefully, you most likely will not be getting the same (if any) check. The discussions are around a maximum dollar amount vs, income limits. President Trump did say he would not be sending checks to the “rich”.

I agree with this, sending a check to every man, woman and child is totally wasteful. Many who don't need it will get it to the disadvantage of those that do.

But I thought about this; the time and cost to actually figure out who does and does not need this money would far exceed any timelines for it's need, there would be arguments on the method for determining the distributions, the method of distribution, and on and on. So it almost becomes less expensive and more timely to just send money to anyone.

It might be. But without saying it, I was referring to the dems and repubs trying to get together to make any decisions. Even if the info is there and available, in-fighting will prevent it from being distributed.
