So I opened the door to look at what is probably Sirius

and something flew at my head and got tangled up for a few quick seconds in my hair. I immediately thought bat, screamed accordingly, and slammed the door. Then I felt my head, looked in the bathroom mirror, realized that it was probably a bird on my wreath out front and I startled it. Nothing to be overly upset about.

Until it flew overhead.

I have a damn Carolina wren in my house. Pooping all over the kitchen cabinet doors I just washed. It's now confined to my bedroom.

Moving is not really an option. Any practical suggestions on how to get it out of here?

The window is wide open in the bedroom. It's flown everywhere but.

There's reason why we say "bird brain". If you had a net it would be easy to catch it. Larry Gude caught a bat in his teenage bedroom with a pillowcase.

Yeah I don't. I would have thought it would have knocked itself out by now. It's hit the wall and ceiling several times now and the last time I saw it, it was panting pretty hard. If it was anything but a bird, I'd be beating it with a broom right now and following that up with bug spray.

Bob Vila says:

Take a large bed sheet in both hands and hold it up at eye level (or higher) with your arms extended to make a large, flat surface. Check that the bird is nestled between you and the exit, then slowly walk forward. By creating a “wall” closing in on the bird, you can better direct it out through the window. Once the unwelcome visitor leaves, you can close the exit window or door, send the large sheet through the wash, and call it a day.

Read that, it's so panicked that I can't get into position. However, the stupid thing has been at the OPEN window several times now. Once facing the outdoor side and freedom. It hopped around the other direction and flew right back in. Left the room for a few minutes, not sure where it is right now. I'm a little freaked out though.

This doesn't sound serious at all.

The bird came in by the door, work it towards the door.

I used a clear trash bag, they won't fly from a light up room to a dark window. Turn off the light, close the door and shine a light inside the window from the outside.

It's gone. I chased it around my bedroom with a broom and it flew to the window again and perched there. I managed to whack it out this time. Thank the gods.

Thanks for the advice all. Panic over. Unless there are Carolina wrens all lined up on my side
walk tomorrow.

Had a humming bird trapped in my great room on the back of my house bout 10 years, opened one of the doors for him/her and tried my damnest to get him out, no joy..Finally after trying for 30 minutes, I stopped chasing it. It flew down to me, hovered about a foot from my face, I stuck out my finger and it landed, walked outside and if flew off. Couldn't believe it..lol

Had a bird get in once. Kiddo was running around screaming, cats were going apesh*t. I was able to herd the bird out to the screened porch with a blanket. Got cats off the porch then opened the porch door and bird eventually found its way out. Then had to clean up all the stuff that got knocked over in the process.

Had a bird get in the house once, then had a cat do a six foot jump and brought it down. They’re pretty easy to catch after getting cat whacked. The cat wasn’t happy with me though.
