Let me have your feedback...

I am going to offer delivery (like pizza joints do) of fast food, McDonalds, BK, etc.

How do you think that will do in this area?

These types of companies have been tried many time, but with only varying degrees of success. The ones I've seen that work are situated in areas with a lot of professionals who have to work late and b) can bill the meal to the client. For example, lawyers often get to bill meals to clients (after 9:00 pm) so there are companies that have built out websites of all available menus and even offer monthly billing (based on client billing references).

Not sure how it would work in a more sparsely populated area.

I know there is a company in D.C. that is thriving, but like you said it would be different in a more sparsely populated area. D.C. has everything, and a lot of rich and powerful people all around to cater too.

You want to know what is needed!! A bag service in the mall. Have you ever been shopping and realize you are being weight down through the bags of stuff you are buying. Well It would be nice to buy the item and have a carrier service pick them up for you and have all of your shopping waiting for you at a service desk so when you are ready to leave all you do is pull up to the designate spot and the courier will bring them to you in the car. The money you can make. It is a rip off of what Disney provide to their guest...

I really liked the valet service annapolis mall was offering during the holidays, I wish I had thought of it, dress up nice, borrow a podium from the school, and park peoples cars for them.

Shoot I wish They had someone to take my bag for me... Got to a point at time where I stopped shopping even though I was not done. Because I could not handle holding all of those bags..

I know in disney we will buy things and at the end of our day we will go up front and retrieve our belongings. That is what I am talking about.. This is what needs to be done in malls. Could get more people to shop longer...

and there are a lot of well off people in Annapolis, every other car I see is a Lexus or Mercedes. Speaking of cars...off topic...But I saw a Ford GT on Saturday driving home from the mall. I just about died. I followed it all the way down route 2 and 260 until he went towards North Beach and I came back to reality. That is one beautiful car. Just when we were pulling away from stop lights that engine ROARED, it seriously sounded like a jet taking off. My little import engine whined, but that thing...made me all warm and fuzzy inside. The best part was, the guy wasn't driving like a retard, and he used turn signals...though around the S bend on 260 when it turns towards Chesapeake beach, he hit the gas, and it just hugged the turns, I couldn't keep up.

I don't know if there is one around here, but it's an offshoot of Jiffy Lube.. taking customer service to the next level..

A portable oil change, car servicing service.. base access would be a must. You drive to people's offices and service their cars while they are at work. I've also seen this done for boats, where you have the same equipment on a "party barge" and go from boat to boat in the local marinas servicing boats, or just changing their oil without having to take their boats out of the water.

I've seen the delivery service tried in a few places, and fail miserably every time. I would wonder if there would be a trademark or liability issue delivering from other businesses.. like what if you got into an accident delivering food from McDonalds to a customer?? Since you are delivering their product, wouldn't you be considered an agent(?) of that business?

Some time ago, when working in Annapolis, there was a company called "Takeout Taxi" who would go around to the area restaurants and pick up orders and deliver them to your workplace or home. I don't think they are in business anymore. For one thing, the service fees were too high. When you are already paying $14.95 for a meal and then have to pay another $6.95 (I don't recall exactly but I think this was close) then you are looking at paying $20+ for a meal. Granted, the delivery is very convenient but I don't think you would get the business in less populated areas and people wouldn't be willing to do this as regularly as say pizza where they can give a $2.00 tip (or none at all if they are jerks).

I think the "bag concierge" idea is good except you would probably have peaks and valleys as well. You would do very well during Xmas but the rest of the year might be hard times. What would you charge someone to hold their bags for them? And how many times would you have to charge that to make money?

Great ideas - I think if you refine them a little bit, you will hit on something very lucrative. Good Luck!

No one can say for sure. If you have the ability to do it, do it. I know what will bring you NO results...not doing anything.

Good luck with it.

As long as there are enough fat people where you live, it should work.

I don't know about that but it seems to me that it's more of a logistics problem than anything. If you had 6 customers who all wanted food from the same place at roughly the same time and lived relatively close to each other, that would be one thing. But dragging all over the county to pick up the food, then dragging all over to deliver it is time-consuming and you can't charge enough to make any money.

Plus you have to get the restaurants onboard with packing the food so it doesn't get cold.

I thought the Pressed4Time concept was a good one - they pick up your drycleaning at your office and take it to the cleaners, then deliver it back to you when it's done. A buddy of mine had that franchise in St. Mary's - not sure what happened with it but I don't think he's in business anymore.
