I checked into this some time ago...
I could not find a good local place to hold an auto x.
A minor investment for cones, etc is needed. Also you would need authorization from the property owner and I think the police and medical crews need to be involved.
The base would be a great idea, but there was no interest when I pitched the idea.

The closest events you will find are at Fed Ex. You also might want to check out Madison Motorsports.org.
I used to drive Auto x's with the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) and the SCCA

That was an awesome race! I think the Panoz "Batmobile" won. It sounded wicked.
All the barriers that were at RFK have since then been moved to Summit Point Shenandoah road course.

Do you have that video posted anywhere?
I sure wish Panoz would contest a prototype in ALMS again. Cadillac had a bad ass prototype too.

When I find it I'll put it on Youtube. :buddies:

I'm not big into ALMS I like Grand-Am more because of the tracks Grand-Am races at (Daytona, Watkins Glen, VIR, New Jersey).

I like the Rolex Series, but the ALMS has neater and faster cars.
ALMS has nice tracks too... Laguna Seca, Sebring, Limerock, Road Atlanta.

I just think Grand-Am puts on more exciting racing.

The incredible racing at Daytona in the 24 Hours at Daytona was the type of racing that sells tickets. That was an incredible race start to finish.

Lots of good drivers coming out of Grand-Am in people like Colin Braun and Justin Marks and Andy Lally.

Damned glad to meet you
If you have the time, here's a clip of the Cadillac Gran Prix at RFK

YouTube - Cadillac Grand Prix, D.C.

Also, if you use mapquest/google earth (aerial view) and look just north of the stadium you can tell where the pavement for the track is by the difference in the shade of the pavement. It was made special for this race for added traction. It has rubber mixed in with the asphalt if I remember correctly.

How do you figure?
The close of this years Daytona race was exciting, but the ALMS series puts on great racing too, especially in the GT class. The LMP1 and LMP2 cars of the ALMS are wicked fast being 700hp and 2000lbs.

The entire 24 Hours at Daytona was exciting I thought. I was glued and then the NASCAR Showdown bore me to sleep.

Yes, this years Daytona 24 was great! I can't believe there were 4 cars in contention for the lead 23 hours into the race.
They run lap for lap of 24hr races at 10/10's nowadays. Amazing that the drivers run the long hours that they do, let alone that many of the cars prove reliable for such a long period of hard racing.
Endurance racing is my favorite form of auto racing for these reasons.

Thanks!
Those Mazda's are loud. How about those Panoz's batmobiles!

Autocrossers Inc. runs at Blue Crabs Stadium three times in 2010:
May 8
August 28
October 17

BMWCCA runs Blue Crabs Stadium:
April 17
July 17
September 11

AI is more hardcore, basically SCCA all over again. BMW is a little more loose, geared more towards newbies, no monster number of classes (non-BMWs are broken into four classes based on engine displacement). Both are fun.

BMWCCA and Capital Driving Club both run at Bowie Baysox Stadium, not too bad a ride from home even on shaved Potenzas
